Producing a Thump/fat shot on a mat can hurt, depending on the quality of the mats. As I said in another post re: mats, my range uses top quality mats that are pretty thick and cushy, so even with my forged semi blades a fat shot isn't all that bad. On cheap mats, it would really hurt, don't ask how I know this... :doh:
