The only advice that I can give, and take it as you may..... why not raise money for some other charity that actually involves humans, like cancer research or orphans or something like that?  Animals are great and all, but I don't ever picturing my self donating to save cats and dogs when I know that I can help an orphan..  just saying.

As previously mentioned you could get people to sponsor you per hole.

If you can get people to pledge $1 a hole or 50c a hole or whatever and you just play as many holes as you are able to. You would not need many sponsors to end up with a nice sum at the end of the day for your chosen charity.

I don't know the first thing about setting up a charity event.  I'm assuming the course is willing to waive green fees for the participants?  If they were I think it would be cool to do something like this... whenever someone in the group makes a birdie everyone else in the group donates $1 to the charity.  Or maybe $1 for par, $2 for birdie and $3 for eagle/ace?  Or how about $1 for par, $3 for birdie, $5 for eagle/ace?  Would that get too expensive?  Run the event all day sun up to sun down and have re-pairings and consolidations after every 9 or 18 as people show up or leave.  I think something like this would be pretty fun and I'd throw down for it if I thought it was for a good cause.

I think that would be far too expensive. Imagine you get 5 players doing that. If everyone  shoots par on every hole at 1$ that would be each player spending 4 x 18$ each. its going to be an expensive day.

I genuinely think you should get a sponsor form and get people to sponsor you per hole. Even if it was just a few cents or a dollar. You would not need many people to sponsor you before you make a substantial sum... If you could get ten people to take part and each of them gets sponsors for their holes also.

Let whoever sponsors you chose how much they would like to sponsor per hole. Let them know that you will be playing from dawn till dusk and how many holes you ESTIMATE you will play. That will give them an idea of what they could afford to sponsor you with.

Ive been thinking about doing a similar thing and talking about it has made me want to look into it properly.

5 players?  I've never heard of 5 player groups.  Most I've seen here is 4, so even if the freak case where you get paired with not 1, not 2, but 3 scratch players and they all slam out pars like it's nobody's business you're looking at 18 x 3.  That's less than 60 bucks.  If the green fees are waived you basically just paid for your round is all.

Regardless, the money scale could be changed to whatever you want so it didn't discourage people from playing and people could certainly play 9 holes instead of 18 if they're worried about overspending.

I agree with you, the five players was a bad example but I do see a regular 5 ball being played at my club.

Theres many different ways of doing the sponsored golf. I was just indicating a possible problem with the players spending money for each "par/bogey/birdie". If green fees are not waived it could be an expensive day for them. I was suggesting the idea of being sponsored per hole as, in my opinion, it looks like the best way to raise money. (Dependant on fitness levels and williningness to play a full days golf)

Each to their own I suppose. Both are viable.
