I've been Playing Golf for: 1 year My current handicap index or average score is: 95-105 My typical ball flight is: fade The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: push or block http://youtu.be/RWZ_rWr5zhg Not sure if I did this right.. Hi... I'm fairly new to the forum and the game of golf. I'm on the site at least 10 times a day.My lack of knowledge of the game keeps me from adding my two cents on the threads. But from the golf channel and TST... I'm learning more and more everday. Any input on my swing would be appreciated. Thnks

Is there something anyone can see in my swing that causes my extreme inconsistencies... or is that just mental?

I've been Playing Golf for: I've been playing for a little over a year My current handicap index or average score is: I'll have an official handicap once golf season in Wisconsin starts... but as of the end of last season I was shooting about 90-100 My typical ball flight is: I really can't say since my swing is so inconsistent.. I'm self taught mostly and II'm not sure what I do to make my ball flight so inconsistent. If I hit it good.. I would say I hit it fairly straight with a slight fade The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: I where do I start? Topping...hitting it a bit fat...and the pulling it left. I'm not good at diagnosing my own swing problems so it would very much be appreciated if I could get any kind of input. I'm fairly new to the game and this site...so let me know if I'm doing something wrong when starting a thread. I started a my swing thread a few days ago and it went ignored... so ya...have at it. @99prblms sorry I missed your thread back when you started it.  What are you currently working on?  If your swing is currently what it was when you posted you may want to add a little knee bend for now.  And this is a good reference, Good Golf Posture .  You have a pretty powerful looking move.  There is a lot to work with there.

No problem, happy to help. Must have been because you posted at the start of golf season last year and we were all out on the course. ;-). If you have a phone or camera that can do slow motion, that would be preferable. If not I will do my best to take a look.

The red circle is where your head is at address. Your upper body shouldn't move forward with your lower body. By keeping your head steady, you will add some upper body tilt (secondary axis tilt) when your lower body shifts forward. This may help lessen the amount you swing from outside to in. I would also think about moving your body and ball position slightly more forward. It looks like the ball position is in the middle of your stance, which is back for what looks like a mid iron and your head is further behind that. Probably why you feel the need to move your upper body forward during the swing.

I have the v 1 golf app that I used to post this video... it has slow motion but I don't know if I can embed it like that.

wow that is a significant shift I have. That video was taken last year and I've been trying to focus on keeping a still head. I don't know if I am cause I haven't filmed myself since. But where my miss was a slice or fade or push..its now a hook and my ball flight is a draw. I want to post a new video and get your guys' help if you could. Hopefully tomorrow... thnx alot!

I don't know what kind of phone you have but with my galaxy s5 I can take video in slow motion and upload it to youtube.  Then embed it on here and its still in slow motion.  I don't ever do it cause Im an idiot but thats a different topic.  If you have time try to take a face on and down the line video every time you go to the range.  Some issues are easier to see from FO and some are easier to see DL so its nice to have both views.

thanks @Jakester23. .. I have the same phone... I will make a video like that next time. Do u just take a video with your camcorder or do you use an app? I do appreciate everyone's help so far. My game has been pretty stagnant lately and I do hope this will improve my game a bit... optimistically hoping before Erin Hills!

There is a setting in the camcorder mode, for the "slow motion rate".

I use the camcorder as well.   I purchase a tripod for on Amazon for $30 (its 72 inches with a case) and a RetiCam tripod mount which was $25.  The tripod mount is always in my bags and Im never without my phone so it works good for me.

    • Day 11, 1/11/26.  Today was putting, along about 6' of carpet, with coins on the ground to keep me cognizant of what I'm doing.  I think this is the at-home drill from LSW. (Ugh, missed two of the last four days -- 1/10 and 1/8)
    • Day 9: 2026.01.11 Hit some balls at the range, concentrating on weight distribution at address, got some on film.
    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
