For me two come to mind.

1: Years ago before I'd ever taken any lessons, playing with friends and a borrowed set of clubs from the 70's.  Something I've fought for years is a tendency to get completely tilted and unreasonably angry (especially unreasonable given my skill level...).  After whiffing twice then skulling 30 yards with like a 8i, getting back in the cart I whacked the tire with the club, not that hard, and snapped the shaft.  I felt horrible since the clubs were actually my friend's grandfathers' old clubs...  (related: this is something I seem to have finally made progress on, I haven't gotten mad on the course in a couple of years beyond maybe a muttered swear word or two)

2: Last round I played actually, was playing extremely well for me since +22 is still my best round ever, and was only like 3 over through 5.  Had a little fringey chip to try and get up and down for par, and decided to play a bump and run.  Grabbed a 6i and hit the ball to exactly the spot I picked, and it rolled about a foot or two more.  Realized I had a PW not a 6i...  Then managed to drag my putter on the next shot and it went another foot, still leaving me about 10 feet. At this point I overcompenste and send it 15 feet the other way and then 3 putt from there for a good old snowman.  This was my standard approach to chipping and putting until a few years ago...  Amazingly I was able to just laugh it off and still wound up with a decent-for-me score of +25.

Was out with a few friends enjoying a friendly round of golf and consuming a few beers. There was a ladies league out at the time quite close to us. My partner really had to releive himself quite badle, and there was no where for him to go. I told him to just stand next to the cart and pee. He thought that would work, so I waited for him to "get it out" and when I was sure he was doing his business, I pulled the cart out of the way for all to see...LOL...Quite the moment...

    • I have an update… I don't have much of a response, because the fact that they would ADD the numbers for the lead and trail shoulder together… I mean, wow. I was giving them too much credit. Nobody would think to assume they were doing THAT. That's beyond comical. One of the biomechanists I talked to put it this way: "So if I squatted down and went from 180 to 90 deg knee angle, then I would say 180 deg range of motion because I have two knees?" I'd type more (maybe), but honestly, I'm laughing a bit too hard. 🤣 Update: Mini Manavian blocked me on Instagram, so I cannot see his post showing Bryson with about 50° of range of motion (with a driver) from P4 to P7, and 75° only if you go out to the mid-follow-through. What a terrible loss for me. 😉
    • Thanks, interesting to read. The swing is definitely very timing dependent. I hit it consistently I guess but consistently bad.
    • I've shot 91-74 on the same day before. Couple of years ago played a two round tournament on Bethpage Black. I shot 72 in the first round and 90 in the second. First round I played very well. Second round I played okay, but had about 5 shots that hit the lips of bunkers and bounced down into them. A couple of those wound up in footprints - I was unamused - and I failed to get them out. Anyway - lots of bunkers and my bunker play isn't great and then add a couple of footprints and me getting pretty tired and it added up to a lot.  Only you can really tell though what's causing the variance. It might be that your swing is very timing dependent and when it's timed well you play well and when it's not then it goes all over the place. In that case, some lessons and working on your swing could be the key. If it's more that you tend to feel like you hit it fairly consistently, but you have days where the shots come off and days where they don't, then that's more likely a course management issue. If that's what you need to work on, then you could read Lowest Score Wins and build a plan of attack based on that.  Rest assured though that a pretty big range from high to low is fairly common. Even PGA Tour players often have 18-20 shot spreads from best to worst rounds in a season. It's a common affliction among golfers.
