So today I went to have my diesel truck smog checked, it Failed, some smoke coming out of the exhaust...sigh So I take it to the diesel guy down the road, he runs a scan on it and all 8 of my injectors need to be replaced...at 5k. I just spent over 6k on this truck. I was planning on getting my new irons next month..NOT!!!

I think somebody up there does Not like me... :-( To say I'm frustrated would be an under statement. My pension and SS doesn't pay all that much..The moral of this story Might be, being old kinda sucks.

First thing I thought of, too.

Second thing I thought of, **** the inspection. I'm sure there's someone out there whose hands could use more grease...

Believe me, we have thought about moving, but wanted to stay close to our kids.

The injectors are bad, and need replacing, I don't want to be rollin coal every time I step on the throttle and pollute the air.

But yeah, cali's laws are pretty wacky..

Wow, that truck is costing you a lot of money!

Roger Dunn has a good selection of used clubs that I am sure you can find ones that fit you. There were about 100 iron sets and hundreds of drivers. I'm thinking of getting an R1 myself.

Anything other than bare necessities are now considered to be a luxury for a few months or more. Unless clubs go on sale for FREE..I'll have to wait. Thanks for the info though.

Not a chance. To buy a new Duramax would cost at least 45K.

Well, some of that was for custom wheels, and tires. I figure most everything that could wear out for the mileage I have, has been, or is going to be replaced. Plus, driving my truck is pure joy.. :-D

That is really all that matter, I had a beautiful dodge, all black 4 door, 6" CST lift, shocked, 36" tires, 18" monsters. Everyone that saw it loved it but at $150 plus a week in gas the fun ran out fast.

So it is all relative at this point., hope this fixes the issues for awhile.

I know what you mean. Back in the days of muscle cars, getting maybe 6 or 7 mpg, got old real quick. Luckily my truck gets pretty good mileage, and diesel motors last a long time. 1 guy I know has 1 mil on his original  motor, another has over 500k, and many with 300k + miles. For the little I drive these days, mine should last until I die, maybe longer...LOL

n
all 8 of my injectors need to be replaced...at 5k.
I`m just a shade tree mechanic, but $625 per injector seems excessive. I bought a pulled V6 from a junkyard for my gas-powered SUV for $1250, paid a garage $1000 to put it in. Two weeks later, one injector went bad. I replaced all three injectors on the side the bad one was on (you have to disassemble the fuel rail, three injectors per rail, so i did not want to have to do it again in a month. Preventitive maintenance) I did it myself to keep costs down. I recall all three injectors being aroun $200. Plus I bought a fuel harness from an xterra forum for cheap. That gave me new OEM connectors. I`m not at all suggesting you DIY it. I have no idea how hard diesels are to work on. I also realize its not something everyone wants to do. BUT ... I managed to replace an entire engine for about half of your injectors. It just seems so wrong. Get some second opinions / other quotes. I feel your pain. I hope you can find a better deal.

Just the injectors are 2195.00 Plus he's doing a couple of other things related to them. Also he is giving me a year warranty on his work, most places around here do 90 days, plus the parts warranty.

Most dealerships charge about 6k for the same job, but use cheap GM reman injectors, mine are new Bosh units. I'll gladly pay a few bucks extra for those. Appreciate your comments though.

Wow! Not much else to say. I worked in San Jose for a few months on an assigment, so I knew CA was expensive. I guess I never knew just how expensive. The local hourly shop rate here would buy many days of vehicle work! I`d have made the same choice, get it fixed. Hope it passes! [Edit: i used reman injectors in mine, that was 5 years ago. Still going strong]

Yep, dealers are about 120.00 per hr. for labor. For most auto makers and their dealers, it's more about money now than quality or customer satisfaction, that's from an insider. And, you can see that by the way they, GM, Ford, ect design their vehicles, inside and out.

Thanks, with new injectors, it should pass with flying colors..

Check if they are German parts. Many Bosch comps. Are made in China. If you're paying this much get really good parts!

Well it seems the maintenance is out of your budget - so maybe a car instead?

Stack System’s marketing materials inflate apparent swing speed and distance gains through selective presentment of data without qualification that purported gains are not the result, in whole or part, of its training protocol and products. * Yes, I'm joking about abbreviating both "SS." SuperSpeed wants: A judgment that the Stack System has disseminated false and/or misleading information in violation of federal and Illinois law. The deletion of all false advertising distributed and recall of all packaging containing false advertising and a requirement that Stack System issue notices (written or otherwise) to that effect to all current distributors and retailers of its products and all distributors with whom Stack System has done business in the past eighteen months. Written confirmation within 30 days of an injunction detailing the manner and form in which Stack System has complied. An order that Stack System disseminate corrective advertising informing consumers, the trade, and the public of Stack System’s unlawful conduct. 3X all profits received by Stack System as a result of its unlawful actions. 3X all damages sustained by SuperSpeed (as a result of Stack System’s actions) The cost of the action All reasonable attorney fees All other relief to which SuperSpeed are entitled and such other or additional relief as just and proper. Oy.
    • I'm not doing this for the hundred and twentieth time. Sorry in advance, but you get the massively abridged version. Those guys also benefited from the weaker/shallower fields. Also, Watson's career doesn't overlap with Jack's like many think it did. Tom is nearly a decade younger. Jack won only like four majors only after Tom won his first. And Tom won more British Opens than he did all three of the other majors combined, as it was his specialty (not Jack's). Arnie's career similarly doesn't overlap Jack's as much as many think.   Jack would also tell you Tiger was the better golfer.
    • Weaker depth of fields for sure. Some of the top level guys with Jack were pretty awesome. Tom Watson had the lead on the 72nd hole of the 2009 British Open, an event where Tiger missed the cut. Old Tom was almost 60 years old. Jack himself at age 58 finished Top 10 at The 1998 Masters and scored better than Tiger, who won The Masters by 12 shots just a year before that.   The success of both Tom & Jack in older age gives some hope that maybe Tiger can find the magic again at some point. He’s still trying to figure out how to build the stamina for 72 holes after the leg injury. I would love to see him jump on the leaderboard in the coming years. I know a lot of people have given up on him at this point, but that was also true from 2014 to 2017 with the back injuries. He had a hell of a resurgence in 2018 & 2019. Would be fun to see it again.
    • Perceptive rules question by caddie unlocks Tour pro’s ‘dead zone’ relief A perceptive rules question by Xander Schauffele’s caddie, Austin Kaiser, unlocked “dead zone” relief during the Wells Fargo Championship.
    • I ran across an interesting new clip, Johnson Wagner went into that spot with the Referee who allowed the relief.  Apparently there was a perfectly reasonable shot to be made, as Johnson clearly demonstrated, so relief from the TIO was perfectly appropriate.
