I'm a beginner looking to purchase all Taylor Made clubs. I need a set of irons,
3wood, 5wood, and driver. I'm leaning towards the Rac OS2 irons, rescue fairway woods, and either the r5 or r7 driver.

Couple questions from a beginners view:

1.) Do I go steel or graphite?
2.) Do I go flex, stiff, or reg?
3.) On the driver...I was told I should get the R5 (N) driver. But which loft? (8.5, 9.5, 10.5) no clue on this one!

Any suggestions, help, links, would be of much help!
Thanks

That's a "high-end" start if you're a beginner.. but I guess if you can afford it - why not taking advantage of the technology

Since I'm an avid fan here's what I think (it will be bias, no doubt!): 1. RAC OS2 is way to go 2. get steel. You'll find out soon the difference is not worth the extra bucks 3. R S or X ? Can't tell w/o seeing your swing... If you're athletic and in shape - S. More than likely your swingspeed will either be there or get there very soon. 4. I myself would advise to get the r7. Set it neutral at first and see what'll come out. I found it more forgiving than r5. Graphite shaft, 10.5 deg. 5. Fairway woods - I'm not a big fan of rescue's. If you're really so rich, that you don't care how much it costs - get the r5 fwy woods. If you do care - V-Steel is a good alternative. Graphite. Bottom line - difference between graphite and steel , R and S flex - is your swingspeed. Steel is less flexible (less distance) and heavier (slower swing). If you can "upgrade" in the near feature - go graphite and R flex to get the ball flying w/o much effort - will keep you more interested in the game Good luck!

Are you seeing a golf coach? Also, if you can, it would probably be worth it to get to someplace where you can hit the clubs into a sim.

You need to see a professional and get fit. It's not just the shaft flex it's also the lie angle of the head and the length of the shaft.

The 1st BIGGEST mistake golfers make is playing a shaft that is too stiff for them. It's not a ego thing. The 2nd BIGGEST mistake is playing a set of clubs that do not properly fit them.

I agree with getting the R7 - Just remember tweaking the weights still will not fix a bad/incorrect swing. It's for tweaking the ball flight of a somewhat reliable swing.

I'd disagree with the sequence Paco. I think not fitted clubs will be #1; wrong shaft? If shaft is too soft yes, it could be a big problem. if shaft is one level stiffer than "measured"... what's the worst it can happen? you'll lose some distance and get lower ballflight. I'm not talking about somebody with 60mph swing, trying to hit XXX shaft. I've my 3W Tour Stiff (XX) on purpose, even though all I swing is about 90-95mph. It gives me lower ball flight (more roll) and much tighter dispersion (or however you spell that thing

). All other clubs are S-flex.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
    • Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
