I just went to the store to see if they had them.  I like the sales pitch from the company and want to play them to see if it's real....

I'm anywhere from an 8 to a 12 or so.  I currently play MP-53's - regular cavity model - I like them fine

Since I bought the 53's and took a couple lessons and play a bit better, I WISH I had bought the MP-64's - player cavity (whatever that means) - but every time I go to the store, I hit them and REALLY like the feel, look and flight

So the MP15's were advertised as essentially for the skill/experience level of the 64's, but the insert allowed them to increase the perimeter weighting a little.  Idea is a similar level of club, but bonus a little on forgiveness.

So I hit a ton (just the six irons) of MP-64 next to the MP-15's

1 - Love them both.

2 - The 64 seemed a little longer to me per the data, but it wasn't a complete eval session.

3 - The 15's were quite a bit 'softer' to the touch (to me) - and I find the 64's to be pretty buttery anyway.  The 15's were better.  Clean contact is obvious like there isn't even a ball in the way.

4 - Could shape the shots pretty good.  But didn't have the right equipment to see about lofting/delofting......

I was hitting decent shots, so I didn't mishit during the time - heck I'm not good enough to mishit on purpose so I took what I could get - the assumption is that on mishits, the 15 would treat me better than the 64's

5 - really pretty at setup, not too thick, pretty much looks like my 53's and 64's.  I'm very comfy with that look.

Simulator bay was on "sell" mode - I don't hit 6 irons as far as the machine was telling me.  It was a bit ridiculous.  Most of my assessment was just on quality of contact, sound, feel.

When will Mizuno offer a few sets to the Sandtrap?  I'd love to review.

I have a new favorite iron to try and own someday now.  Would love to replace my 53's with 15's (P-> 5i), get more aggressive face wedges LW/SW/AW (liking the mack daddy 2's), and then go and play with hybrids and woods again (though frankly, the Nike VR ii pros are treating me very well lately - I've had a lot of success lately with Callaway and Taylormade loaners too - so I assume those are all likely to be a wash)

Finally got to hit them at the range

very sweet - you really know when you hit the sweet spot

It does tell you if you miss, but not in a jarring way like the MP64's do

I think the sweet spot is a little smaller than my 53s - in fact I'm sure it is

It's SUPER consistent distance when the strike is clean - and I'm getting about 10 yards farther than my 53s with the same lofts and what seems to be similar flight lines.

-but a lot more penal on non-sweet contact vs my previous MP53s

-and super pure contact (you know it when you hit it) nets another bump in yards, not sure if I want that...

(So I guess I better work on clean contact - I'd rather hit a 6i 175+/-10 yards 8 out of 10 times with the miss being another 10 yards either way, instead hitting it 185+/-10 yards 6 of 10 times and then the 4 misses being like 20 yards off normal - but that's where I am now - possibly just because it's the first range session so far)

really easy to shape (left right)

and control (up down lofting) the ball

much easier to get a good soft shape out of these than the 53s

pretty club at address clean lines

I think I'm going to have a lot of fun with these and learn more about my game

    • Fantastic selection! And very little driving between them. Fingers crossed the weather is good to you.
    • Day 20: 2026.01.22 Hit about twenty balls at the range. Quietly pleased with how the changes are bedding in, surprsingly consistent ball flight. Hoping to film over the weekend to capture new movement.
    • You might also consider a tune-up lesson. Check and see if anything in your set-up or basic swing is holding you back. I have been playing for more than five decades, but on occasion I've had to make swing tweaks due to age, loss of flexibility, etc. You don't have to reinvent your swing. A couple of static set-up changes might really help out.
    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
