I've been working on learning to slot the club by dropping the arms.  Much of the advice out there says that it's the left hip movement, laterally and rotationally, that should pull the arms down.  I'd like to understand this and I don't feel as though there's a physical barrier, but bumping and rotating my left hip always seems to turn my shoulders out at the ball, causing an over the top situation.

I don't understand how guys like Sergio can slinky those hips around without seeming to affect their upper bodies.

Should you actively resist the turning of the shoulders as you turn your hips?  Doing so seems to create a great amount of tension down the left side of the body.

If you're doing it properly, the shoulder turn will help bring the club through the down swing while you also drop your hands keeping your wrists hinged. Keep that right arm tucked into your right side. If you do that, it's hard to come over the top. For me, the back swing starts by turning my shoulders (remember S&T;) which brings the club back toward the inside. On the down swing, I bring the butt of the club down toward my legs before I do any unhinging of my wrists. If you're coming over the top, you're starting your downswing with your hands too early. Take a look at the first 3 keys. Closely watch what the shoulders, legs, hips and arms do. Remember you're watching Stack and Tilt. The left shoulder is stacking over the legs while the right shoulder is going up. There's a lot of movements there. Break them down and master one at a time. For me, I had to get to the point where I only had a single swing thought, not twenty. That takes repetition doing it slow. Do it in front of a mirror. If it doesn't look like the video, do it until it does. When you start doing it right, it will probably hurt at first because you're working new muscles.
