Today I played in a benefit scramble.

My team didn't do very well - 5 over - but I had a good day and got compliments from my teammates. (Two were 15 HDCPs who had bad days). I don't mean to brag, just wanted to give a progress report for the season, as shown in scramble.

On the thirteen long holes, we used my drives 7 times. Three had carry of about 240, plus good additional runout. For most part, drives were in fairway or first cut, even ones we didn't use.

Six of my full-shot approaches held the green, and I wedged us in for a one-putt four times. (Fairway woods off the deck were a little klunky...).

One thing that helped: I took all my practice swings with the sun to my back. That way, I could use the shadow to check I wasn't overswinging, that I stopped at my ear.

This is the summer I redid irons: reshafted my X20 Tours from PX 5.0 to much lighter NS Pro 8950GH (R.Flex), and also got to test out the SLDR irons (also sub-100 gram shafts). With lighter shafts in both iron sets, I had trouble at first with trying to kill the ball. I didn't need to with the lighter shafts. (Used X20 Tours today).

Today was the first time in ages I didn't have a woods-hybrid swing and an iron swing: I had a golf swing! Having wood and iron shafts closer to the same weight help this out.

I've had some good lessons this summer, but that's it for awhile. I just want to work on what I already know I need to do, and build it into my swing.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Five over in a scramble? That's a rough day. :-) As long as the beer was cold! I've never been over par in a scramble yet (knock on wood). They're still fun anyway.

Nice post.  And it does make you feel good to contribute to the team when playing a scramble!

I had a similar experience yesterday at a charity golf outing as well (scramble format). Been struggling off the tee lately but, for whatever reason, I was hitting it REALLY well yesterday. I don't know, there's just some "freeing" about a scramble format. I too have been taking lessons this season and it was nice not having to think about swing mechanics or the implications of a bad shot...just line it up and hit it.

I played in a scramble a few years back (when I was younger) where I wasn't the A player. I was the B, so I teed off 3rd. Our A player was the best driver of the ball I've ever seen. LONG! Well, since I knew he was behind me, I pucker up both cheeks for my drives and I don't think we took one of his drives all day. I can hit the ball long too, but I was in a zone that day. Several over 300.

    • Down the line and face on from today. Still feeling like I’m sticking the club into a hole in the ceiling above my right shoulder and then big loop inside to start downswing. That’s how it feels. Not how it looks though! Gotta keep working on this for a bit but I see a lot of progress. 😁
    • Day 5 (13 Mar 26) - Friday shootout cancelled- made it a practice round working from mixed tees. Plenty of up and down work around greens.  Best was a hole out birdie on the par 3 #5 hole - nice pitch and roll w/Pw from about 10yds off the green - dead center flagstick drop.  Much of round was focused on getting solid weight shift into lead foot.
    • Day 208 3-13 Worked on wrist arching and flow. First time hitting reall balls at a range in months. It was nice to see ball flight. Still not sure it beats my backyard practice station.
    • Three hole match - microphones on in the cart. It's fascinating listening to them talk about their shots and how they play them. I'm not normally a huge fan of the TM videos - they seem forced to me - but this one doesn't. It's also fun seeing their competitiveness over what on the face of it is a fairly meaningless 3 holes, but they can't help themselves.
