Let me say this without any bragging intended. I rarely play with anyone who out hits me on the course or if they do, it is a 10 yards or so, driver wise. I generally out hit most I play with by 30 yards or more. Not that I am that long, I just play around a lot of shorter hitters. They often look at my shots somewhat slack jawed which is a little off putting because again, I am not that good or really that long.

The other day I get caught up with this guy and I became the "slack jawed" lacky. This cat had a swing like butter. Killer lag. He was BOMBING it. I just was like wow dude you are murdering that ball. We were playing the blacks and he was putting the ball 30 yards past my normal "whites" playing area. Perfect draw drives in the fairway most of the time. I was mundo impressed. To bad he moved to Florida to go to golf school. I wish I could have played a few more times with him.

He said he played all sorts of sports in high school but found that he had a knack for golf and stuck with it. I asked him what his average drives were and he said when he is on, it is every bit of 300 with some bombs at 310-320.

It was pleasurably humbling. I still played well enough to hang with him but I don't think he was grinding too hard.

I thought I would just share this...in case anyone is bored.. :-D

I just facebooked him and he has a book published too. He didn't even mention that...

I've played with several young baseball players in Florida for Spring Training. Some of those guys can murder the ball. There was one guy about 6'3" pitcher who hit the ball consistently in the 350 range. There was a par 5 playing 500 yards and he was well inside the 150. Didn't have a short game though. I've never heard a ball hit as hard as he hit it. I played another round with a former LSU linebacker. He was 6'5" and still chiseled at 50 years old. He routinely hit balls well over 300, but not necessarily in our fairway. :-D

This guy was on the golf team. Played a Cleveland Classic driver. Made a weird slap noise when hit... Solid all around golfer. His book was about golf as well.

What school? Somewhere up Vermont way? Never been to Vermont but would love to go sometime. Having Bernie Sanders as a Senator would worry me. I call myself conservative, but I'm more of an anarchist.. That's it for my politics. :-)

    • Day 4 (24 Jun 26) - Played the mid-week shootout - iffy day on putts as I had 35 and of late been in the upper 20's.   Greens recently verti-cut and they are a bit bump and long haired - no excuses as I need to learn to trust making the proper adjustments.   Overall a decent day with some solid long game shots.

    • Thank you.  I'll cross it off the list since it isn't going to achieve what I want.
    • While it does turn out that both Tiger and Phil are less squeaky clean than I previously believed, I don't think golf quite has the worst in professional sports.  Or maybe they're better at image management.   Obviously I'm not fond of Phil's issue we're discussing in this thread (or his involvement with LIV) or Tiger's choices of how to drive.  I used to really like Dustin Johnson and, even before the LIV situation, we started to hear rumors that he bought more snow than Seward, although I don't think those stories were ever substantiated.  Meanwhile, I did think of Anthony Kim as the "good, bad boy" of the tour for a while fifteen years ago because of his party persona -- and if it turns out the worst he did was show up hung over to play (barring what one thinks of LIV), that's pretty good.  And I'm still happy he found a way to get his life clean. If we contrast that with some other sports I enjoy, I'm sure we could find a nice long list of NFL players that, at one point in my life, I was quite fond of, we get far worse disappointments (to put it mildly).
    • Answering that properly would land me in hot water, so I'm not going to. I don't think that many people would do that. I think that in certain circumstances many people would be willing to overlook someone doing that. But I was really referring to what I assumed was Tiger's transgressions (cheating on his wife) not Phil's.
