Lol. I got an 8 am prepaid for $36 at a muni that has an opening. Wanna play haha. Not the best course but I don't think it's a goat track but it is a muni and the greens are probably like an 8 right now but I think roll okay. It's on renaissance. Will be 4 hours tops if people ain't in front is us. Edit: I assume charlotte is nc lol

James

If not what area are you in? Check out the tradition, highland creek...the divide last because is a pretty straight course. These are all on the carolina trails so you can find one number and see when they have an opening on any of them and they usually have good deals on clickit and usually pretty open.

James

We have 3. We are staying near the conf center but we have a vehicle. We are playing tradition on monday for a tournament

Cool. What conf center? Sorry for my ignorance but If I don't use it I just don't care lol. When are y'all trying to go out and what do you consider reasonable? Probably gonna be tough in charlotte. Have y'all looking at anything specific? Ive played almost every course in charlotte so I will try to help.

James

Right by nascar hof... $50 is reasonable

Verdict ridge is like $59 on clickit in AM but think you can sign up for their guilty pleasure card and get out for $54 I don't think you will be disappointed, tough little track and should be close down 77. Edgewater is solid if you wanna drive an hour and half (free bottles of water on course, developed by fuzzy zeller). Carolina lakes is a really nice, tough track(I get lessons there) if you go after 2 it's $39 on clickit, if not I am not sure the rate but you probably cant get out. If you are debating and don't mind playing in the afternoon and can get a tee time I would go there later and use clickit. Regent park is $50 on clickit and well maintained. Good challenge and straight shot down 77. Honestly if you are trying to go in the morning it's going to be tough. Charles t Meyers should be pretty cheap and you can probably get out it's owned by the city, but I Played there today and even 2 weeks after aeration the greens roll nice. Just play the tips if you want any challenge unless you hit real short and prepare for a slow, slow, slow round. You could always see if you can get out on tradition for practice. The difficulty is overrated off the whites but if you play the blues it will challenge you unless you bomb it. Whatever you decide, hit em well.

James

Sorry I will add highland creek. Recently when I have been out there their bunkers are terrible but the course isn't bad at all. And probably a good chance y'all can get out in the morning. Also if you do go to carolina lakes be prepared for bunkers lol.

James

Well we went t epicenter had a great time and will check cirst thing am....... maybe lol

Thanks. They wanted to play sunset hills for $36. Greens are small and super slow... had a good time. Shot 83 but was goofing off on the last couple holes and had two triples lol... shot 37 on the front.

Lol terrible choice. I guess it's cheap and I haven't been there in a while but if it's the same it's about as bad as it gets in charlotte. Weather sucked too. Not sure what time you went but where I was it misted pretty much the whole frnt 9 and then rained for a couple holes and was cold as heck. hopefully it's better for your tourney tomorrow.

Sunset Hills was bad.  The weather was a little gloomy but the rain stopped before we got there.  I tried to talk them into another course but they were looking for something cheap (I still had fun!).   PS...  Thanks for the recommendations-  We talked about all the courses you mentioned - it just came down to price pretty much.

The tournament at Tradition Golf Club was good too.  The fairways are larger than they look but the trees off the fairways are thick making it easy to lose a golf ball if you hit it in there (adds a little pressure and makes the fairways feel small).  If you are straight off the tee the course is easy.  We played well but didn't do anything spectacular.  I was lucky to get paired with some fun playing partners so that helps.  The staff was great and very welcoming.  Anytime of the course is fun though!!!!

I'm in Charlotte for golf with some local friends the next few days. Are there any changes or additions to these recommendations for this season? We were looking to play both days this weekend, with one day being maybe something nicer, in the $50 range on Golfnow or whatever and then something more casual the other day. Red Bridge looked interesting. We're just outside of the city center and can take a reasonable drive in any direction. Curious for thoughts, especially from @JP golf and @whatwoodtigerdo

Thanks!

Tradition Golf Club is good municipal course- $35 Twilight after 2 and is worth that price.  I put some pictures of Tradition below (crappy pictures, but I forgot to take pictures once the round started lol. Ballantyne was awesome but a bit more pricey (We got on through a friend that had some voucher for $40 a person).

I would spring for Ballantyne if you can find something around $65-75 - https://www.theballantynehotel.com/packages/#golf That was 100% worth it for me and I would play again in a heartbeat.

Below are pictures of Tradition....    What ever you do, don't do Sunset Hills.  I had a blast but that's because of the people I played with.  The course sucked (cheap though!).

We have a tons of great courses over here and most of them are over $50 in weekend, unless you want to use twilight rates like me any my buddy.

I usually play in the south Charlotte area and here are a couple of local courses: Ballantyne public (the link above) is great with really fast greens. Carolina Lakes is beautiful and interesting with rolling FWs and greens. Fort Mill GC (Donald Ross design) totally different to the Lakes with elevated smallish greens (and my home course).

By way of followup, I wound up playing Red Bridge just east of Charlotte. The course was immaculate, the fairways were firm, and the greens were perfect, though really quick compared to what I'm used to. The grass driving range was a nice surprise, too, though I psyched myself out being in a rush and swinging badly. The first tee is amazing; there's a vineyard that runs along the side and the elevated tee gives an amazing view.

Only complaint was the pace was absolutely glacial. Front 9 took just shy of 3 hours and we were a twosome. I think it may have been the outing they had earlier that day. Back 9 picked up. But, yeah, the course was really stunning. For $30 with cart, it's amazing. Course like this would run you somewhere short of $100 in fees up in New York. Really impressed.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll have to remember that next time I'm down there.  Glad you picked a winner!  Just glad you didn't do Sunset Hills lol...
