I've been collecting new Taylormade R7 clubs for the past few years. Yup a strange hobby. :loco:

Question:  I've noticed all the TP Drivers & Fairway Woods have a .350 tip. While the standard Drivers & Fairway Woods have a .335 Tip Diameter.

Could some one explain why the TP clubs use a .350 vs. a .335 shaft

Could you also explain what the performance difference would be.

Thanks ahead of time

Wilson tried marketing the fatshaft technology in their irons and woods about 20 years ago. People I've talked to enjoyed playing them. Presumably the shaft twists less on off center clubhead hits. The problem comes if you need to repair the club. Only the club manufacturer has these shafts.

A clubfitter wouldn't be able to justify the expense of stocking non-standard shafts.

I contacted Taylormade to ask the question why TP Drivers & Fairway Woods have a .335 Tip while Non TP Drivers & Fairway Woods use .350 Tips.

They couldn't answer my question

Below I received an E-mail answering my question regarding the Taylormade TP vs. Standard clubs & shafts. This answered my question and I hope it helped other golfers.

Hello,

Thank you for your email and for playing Taylormade Golf.

This is a way for manufacturers to know the difference between two different styles of shafts. The TP shafts are heavier and stiffer and are made differently to match up with a faster and quicker swing tempo. Golf shaft companies have made shafts to fit that swing profile and we use that designation to make it easier to know the difference.

Thank you,

Thank you again and we wish you continued success with your golf game!
