Just throwing out some thoughts as I have been working on my weight transfer and would like some guidance. I have had a bit of an issue with hanging back on my right side a bit. I have struggled for quite a while with getting to the left. Slide the hips = I overdo it and then end up dipping my back shoulder. Zipper Away = Feels like I am moving my whole body away from the ball and falling back I haven't found my feel just yet but kind of stumbled on feeling like my left knee kept a lot of flex as long as possible. Almost like drive my knee out and down in front of my left foot. I am thinking I was straightening my left knee too soon and it was preventing me from getting to my left side. 1. What I want to know is does this seem logical? That I could be straightening the left leg too soon. 2. What other feels have worked for everyone out there?

I haven't found my feel just yet but kind of stumbled on feeling like my left knee kept a lot of flex as long as possible. Almost like drive my knee out and down in front of my left foot.

I am thinking I was straightening my left knee too soon and it was preventing me from getting to my left side.

The idea of pressing down on the lead foot (toes) on the downswing has really helped me. I'm not saying I properly shift my weight yet, but in the last couple of months I've made progress and learning how to apply that pressure really helped. If things start to go badly with my swing, concentrating on that single swing thought usually will bring it back.

As far as the other points, I'm certainly not qualified to answer but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will respond soon.

Are you sure you're not doing one of two things with that feel:

  • Actually just dipping the right shoulder down?
  • Sliding the hips forward but not bringing the arms down fast enough?

So…

I recommend isolating the motion at first. Learn what it feels like. Stand at an address type position (you don't have to be holding a club) and just slide your hips left. Repeatedly. That's the motion. Isolate it, then work on it at slow speeds. Keeping your knee flexed longer is great (just don't keep it flexed after impact).

Well now you have me thinking .... Not sure I've ever felt or thought about my hands with sliding the hips forward. I guess it is possible that I'm just dipping my right shoulder at times. I will watch that video in a bit. do you think the feel of left knee down and forward is bad?

Does this answer it? :)

OK are you saying with the slide the hips feel if the blocks happen then the hands arent moving down fast enough?

Yes or the right shoulder may be tipping back. I'd recommend posting a swing video to confirm it.

Right shoulder tipping back? Mike, are you saying tipping back too soon or back and not enough out toward the ball? Secondary tilt results in some 'tipping back" doesn't it?

Upper center moving back too much.

Sometimes. Mistake players make is "manually" trying to create it by moving their head back.

Sadly... I do this more than I would like.

    • God I hate when golf can’t give me n+1 day of success. Drives me up the wall when my body is, FU! Im like, ok let’s check the vid. Yep too much turn, arms getting behind me. Ok, I work on that. Get the feel back for a shorter swing. Confirm with video. Then going back to arms down stuff.  Arms down, nope it’s hands out towards the ball. Oh, you get arms down better. Guess what, you don’t get to rotate and you hit 6 inches behind the ball. Yay!  Maybe I should have walked off the range and not wasted my time. I wish there was a body alert system when it’s going to a SOB for the day. 😭 OK rant over, I’ll be back at this tomorrow.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
