Dave Stockton, Stan Utley, Hank Haney and others weigh in.
Woods was a Stanford undergrad when Dave Stockton helped the fellow Californian with his intermediate pitching game in the mid-1990s. According to Stockton, the technique Woods has been using lately is a clear departure from the supple, athletic form he showed as a teenager. ... Fellow short-game gurus Stan Utley and Kevin Weeks—who between them work with more than a dozen tour pros—also see improper technique. “His hands are leading too much and his right knee and right shoulder dip, which makes the leading edge stick into the ground,” Utley says. “He needs to work to keep his right side tall and throw the clubhead. It’s a four-minute fix if he’s working on the right stuff.” ... No matter how Woods spends his practice time from now until his likely first start of 2015, at Torrey Pines in the Farmers Insurance Open the first week of February, the question won’t really be answered until he demonstrates he can hit good chips from tight lies under pressure.
http://www.golfworlddigital.com/gw/january_5__2015#pg15

Lol, the problem is that he's trying to chip it. Stick with a simple pitch, my brother.

I feel like it's been common for him to struggle with chipping and pitching after a long period outside of competitive golf. It's probably one of the shots he started working on at an early stage, it being a small movement and all, but I've always had the impression he got into a kind og yip after being away for a long time. It usually sorts itself out as he gets back into it.

He's got all the resources needed to get his short game in order. I'd personally worry more about his driving and long game. Chipping and pitching is easier to fix, it's a slower and more controlled movement.

to your first point, while it may be true, we have NEVER seen Tigs struggle like he did at the Hero.

the second point, at that last tournament, had his chipping/pitching been better, he couldve been 9 strokes better and ahead of the middle of the pack.  his driving wasnt bad at all.

I don't think it's yips, it's just rust, golf is not like riding a bike and Tiger has probably not seen such a big break from the game since he was born.

    • It's going to be very difficult for the 2026 Masters to match the 2025 edition for storyline. I honestly don't know that anyone else in the field could match the story of Rory finally winning after so many years and the blow ups over the years, not to mention the career slam being completed. No one this year that I can think of is remotely close to that kind of story. Combine that with the attempts at blow ups last year (Double on the 1st, 13, 18 on first try) and the stunningly good shots that he hit in the final round (7, 15, 17, 18 on second try).  Full gamut: https://www.masters.com/en_US/watch/2025-04-13/17445961638226475/every_single_shot_from_rory_mcilroys_final_round.html
    • Let's kick off the 2026 Masters talk with… a look back at 2025 (coming soon):
    • Wow, so Europe named Luke for a third term. Luke Donald named 2027 European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald named 2027 European Ryder Cup Captain Who will the U.S. name? I hope not Tiger Woods.
    • I am playing Arrowhead for the first time and I am pumped.  What are some things that I need to make sure and appreciate, for those that have played it before and love it? It has been a pretty dry winter so I am expecting rough to be forgiving which is nice and it will be playing much easier than it does in the late summer (I am assuming based on other colorado courses).  What should I make sure to not miss?
