Hi everyone, quick and simple question here.

I'm an 18hcp and have always used the highly forgiving (and old) Nike Slingshot HL since I started playing.  My father in law gave me a brand new complete set of Adams Speedline he won at a tournament as a present (entry level clubs).

Since they were brand new I thought about selling them but have had no luck.

Now that I got them sitting there for free, I'm wondering if I should switch from the Nikes to these clubs since they are newer (recent model).

I know they are both low end clubs, but I still wonder if the adams would be slightly better than the nikes.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I would stick with the Nikes. Those cheaper complete set clubs typically have much looser manufacturing tolerances for all the components. You don't want to need to adjust your swing for different swingweights, flexes etc.

Go Adams but get some A12OS or CB3's. Those Nike slingshot irons were some of the worst ever produced in the history of golf.

I'd crank up those Adams without doubt. You have nothing to loose.  I would however at least get staticly fit to them.  By this I mean have your wrist to floor measurement taken.  Then go to a deecentgolf establishment and hit them off a lie board.  Then get the irons fitted to you.  Get the lies set up properly.

This would be a great starting point.  With the irons at least lie adjusted and knowing Adams's reputation for hybrids I think you would be at a good point to really get started.  As an aside if some of your current Nikes work better than the Adams don't be afraid to mix and match.

Good luck in your endevors.

The Nikes are probably "better," but if you can't offload the Adams, you might as well try them. "Better" is really just whatever you hit ... well, better.

Agree, Nike has produced some really crappy irons.

I agree with that for the distant past. but they've made great strides the past 3 years. Rental SQ / Sasquatch / Sumo clubs were the first I ever played with when I rented them from the pro-shop here. I was lousy but those were equally lousy. Covert was something of a turning point for them from a GI and Super GI iron range perspective. The first Coverts were pretty good (though they sounded and looked awful with that plastic insert in the cavity), and the 2.0 irons I was a flat-out fan of. I've also seen the new Vapor irons almost universally praised for what that's worth. On the higher end, their Victory Red Pro cavity irons and wedges from a few years ago were very, very good. I played a round with those last year borrowing them from a friend to try and, while they're out of my handicap range, what a joy they were to play.

This is all mostly neither here nor there, I just felt like putting in a good word for Nike, haha.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
