I bought the 12 degree last year with the stock stiff shaft and had mixed feelings. I'd never had a club off the tee that was so straight - but it wasn't really longer than any 3-wood I had had. I then changed the shaft to an Aldila Tour Green hoping for more distance - I've only played a few rounds with it and it seems longer but nowhere near as accurate. I haven't hit the 14 or 16 deg versions, I'd love to though.

I have hit the Mini quite a few times at the "shop" but have yet to pull the trigger.

I have played a 983E Driver, 350cc head with a deep face and shallower pear profile forever!  Next is a Cleveland Custom Classic.  I have in my bag a Cleveland M1 15.5 Mashie and us it as a three wood. I have great results with it both off the tee but especially off the fairway where I feel a 3 wood from the deck is the hardest club to hit for most of us. It goes dead straight and long. I sometimes think that it goes as far as my drivers. Hard to find one, but worth it.  I'm a 8 hcp. So I know just enough to know nothing.

I bought one for my best man rather than the customary gift of cufflinks or whatever - seemed a nice idea. He plays off about 30 and has absolutely loved it so far, finding it brilliant off the tee. Hasn't yet had the courage to use it from the fairway though!

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

What's in the bag: Callaway X2 Hot Driver, Titleist 915F 3 wood, X2 Hot 3 Hybrid, 3, 5-AW Apex Pro irons, 54*, 58* Cleveland RTX, Odyssey Versa 1 Putter

Around 1993 TaylorMade had a Midsize Fairway Driver that was 12° or 13°. As I remember it it was endorsed by Gary McCord. I actually had both models, the bronze and grey colored heads.

As for my experiences with the club, I had it in my bag from 1994-2013 until I finally changed to the TM RocketBallz Tour three wood (14.5°). The club was very useful from either the tee or fairway. When I had a tight driving hole or if my driver was acting up, I would hit the Fairway Driver with a high degree of confidence.

Drivers: Bag 1 - TM R11 (10.5°); Bag 2 - Ping G5 (9°),
Fairway woods: #1 - TM RBZ Tour (14.5°) & TM System 2 Raylor (17°); #2 - TM Burner (15°) & TM V-Steel (18°)
Hybrid: #1 - TM Rocketballz (19°); #2 - Ping G5 (19°)
Irons: #1 - Ping i3+; #2 - Hogan Edge  (both 4-pw, +1" shaft)
Wedges: #1 - Ping i3+ U wedge (52°) & Ping Eye 2+ BeCu (60°); #2 - Ping ISI Sand BeCu (52°) & Cleveland CG11 lob (60°)
Putters: Ping B60i & Anser 2, Odyssey White Steel 2-Ball & White Hot XG #9, Lamkim Jumbp grips
Golf Balls: Titleist Pro V1, Bridgestone B330, Callaway SR1, Slazenger Grips: Lamkin Crossline
Golf Shoes: Footjoy & Adidas; Golf Glove: Footjoy StaSof®; Golf Bag: Ping Hoofer
I love this game! :-D

Just got back from course LOVED it I hit 9 out of 14 fairways but other 5 was just on left of fairway could have easily been 100% no duck hooks just barely off fairway. Swing easy and watch it fly found if I tried to muscle it was a draw. Hope this helps. Oh hit one of heel still rolled out 210 yards down middle.

I just purchased a 16' seems like fairway finder. What are your experiences & gameplay with this club?

Too hard to control. In the end I get more out of changing how hard I swing my driver than buying a driverish 3-wood. If you want to hit the fairway more often with your driver learn to swing 70-80%. In the end there is no significant accuracy gain over hitting the Mini-Driver versus a normal driver. If I can't gain a significant advantage in terms of distance compared to accuracy then I will not game that type of 3-wood with its limit function outside of just being a club you use from the tee box.

    • Live Updates from the range! Open the club face at address, and trust that you’re gonna be able to get the face in a good position at impact. I don’t have to feel like I have to keep the face open throughout the entire downswing. The swing feels much more free-flowing through impact. Difference in ball flight is that previously it would be a low to mid trajectory that starts straight and draw left, or slight pulls. New ball flight are high push draws.  It’s kind of stupid. I feel like it should slice off the planet. I look up and it’s maybe a slight push. 🤣 Some distant wedge feels. More weight on front foot. Keep weight on front foot.  Pivot around left knee. Solid contact all the time.

    • Day 2:  I hit a bucket of balls this morning.  Not gonna lie, almost didn’t go since it was my first time going alone and it was a little intimidating.  I mostly hit with my driver (the last bit of balls was with my 7 iron).  The sun was in my face but I think the ones that had good contact with went the furthest yet (maybe 150 yards then a good roll?).  Once I switched to my 7, the first half of my balls were crap.  I’ve always hit my irons before my driver when practicing and done fine - does this make any difference or is it just because I’m so green?
    • It's likely per "category" of clubs, so irons would be one category, wedges would be a category, driver a category, fairway woods/hybrid a category, etc. They aren't going to charge you $50 per iron for a fitting. Almost all iron fittings are done with like a 6 or 7 iron, fitters don't carry full sets of every iron. So yes, if you use a 7 iron for the fitting and let's say you get fit into the P790 with a certain shaft, 1 degree flat and .5" longer than normal you would just order the full set of P790s with that shaft/lie angle/length combination and you'll be perfectly fine.
