Hello I went to my local driving range and I get to demo different shafts. One guy asked me to try the speeder evolution with sr flex and I told the guy that's senior flex but he said it's not because it's between regular and stiff. But when I come to a few website about sr which they said it's senior flex but the other side "a" flex is senior too. Soo confused. Anyway I tried that sr flex which dosent feel whippy. The flight was really great. I demoed the aldila tour green and rogue. They are fantastic shafts. I tested the fujikara pro which feels similar to speeder evolution. Do you know any shaft that can stop hooking or pull hook the ball? Otherwise it's my swing path? I play stiff flex and want to try the x stiff to improve my swing speed over time (my opinion) haha. Thanks

The sad thing is there is no continuity for shaft flex between manufacturers and even within the shafts of a manufacturer.  You have to try them and choose what works best for you.

The demo guy asked you to try a senior shaft as you're a stiff trying for x-stiff? Either that guy is really insulting or you play way too stiff a shaft haha. If you're having issues with pulls or hooks, shaft flex would be way down the list of possible solutions I'd worry about.

What is your driver swing speed, and tempo (easy, moderate, quick) presently?

Haha I couldn't tell if that guy is insulting me. My swing speed is from 100-105mph though I can swing faster than 105 but I could lose focus on the ball. My tempo is quick. I have a habit to swing out to inside but I have stopped slicing recently. Hence the hook, pull hook. Thanks to my new found grip. The last time I checked the data, I tried a stiff shaft diamana whiteboard 70g with Nike vapor pro 8.5 deg loft and the spin was high around 3000-4000. That's the reason why my driving distance is 260 yards total. The launch is high but I can tell the ball is definitely spinning fast. When I tried to correct my swing path from inside to out and the spin goes down and distance was 286yards total. But then I have a habit of out to inside. Thanks. It would be great to advise me what shaft I should use.

General thoughts as a golfer not in the business:

What are you using to measure swing speed?

Fast tempo, 100-105, still would need to see if you cast early, hold on until too late.

Increased spin could mean, and you may alluded to it above, reducing the effective loft on the driver with a negative angle of attack (hitting down on the ball) at impact.

You are attempting to get rid of a fade/slice flight with a grip change -- that could be a band-aid - a short term fix.

You are better off fixing the issue causing the out to in, etc. It may be a sequencing issue.

Some of the above is discussed in the forums - -hitting up on the driver, 5 simple keys, etc. Sequencing, and others.

Before purchasing a shaft, I would resolve the above issues if they are relevant.

Well-fit shafts for flex can, realistically, only affect ball spin a few hundred RPMs. It sounds from what you're saying that you have a clearer path to your desired result through working on improving your driver swing.

I used the flight scope x2. Though I remembered the smash factor is 1.45 with an out to inside and the ball dosent go that far. What do you mean by the grip for the short term fix? I am getting used to my new grip. The previous one was my thumb straight on line where my left hand seem to be flat. The pros have told me that I have out to inside. I spin my hips first then I hold my hands to swing through but sometimes my hip comes first in my mind while ignoring my arms hence the out to inside. You mean by hitting down the ball that cause negative angle of attack means I was using the wrong ball position?

Guessing you went to a stronger grip. If you convert to an inside out swing (which took me something like 6 months, I'm certain you won't be worse than me), then the grip will only change your general direction following the ball flight laws a bit better.

The shaft flex doesn't matter. . .

Thought their temporary fix might be to strengthen the grip a bit - where your left thumb and forefinger are pointed to the far right of your right shoulder -thumb is more clockwise - 1,2 or 3 o'click on the grip.

The pros have told me that I have out to inside.

I spin my hips first then I hold my hands to swing through but sometimes my hip comes first in my mind while ignoring my arms hence the out to inside.

Check the 5 Simple Keys Threads and Videos - you do not want to "spin"

You mean by hitting down the ball that cause negative angle of attack means I was using the wrong ball position?

Wrong ball position and wrong setup in terms of body angles

Look around for the threads and vids here -- they are enlightening.

At 100-105, you can find a 65g shaft that will probably work for you. They are making lighter shafts that are lower spin in this higher tech era

    • Day 206 3-11 Focused on wider backswing and reconnecting arm in downswing. Wasn't really happy with how swing was looking today. Wider backswing is very different for me. Went back to do a some longer pauses at the top. Hit a few foam balls.
    • This is an awesome breakdown. most of the bigger tournaments usually have one wave with the advantage, Thank you for the breakdown. If it is soft then it will be a lower final score
    • Over the past 15 years, the winning score has ranged from -10 to -20. Mostly around -13.  Here is Thursday and Friday weather. Saturday and Sunday weather. I think the course will play soft. Plenty of sky cover, lots of rain on Thursday. Fairways and greens will probably stay soft throughout the week.  In terms of tee times, I think Thursday morning and Friday afternoon have the biggest advantage. I am thinking 12 or 13 under
