I finally broke down and built myself some fun. 9 Months of winter blues and the wife finally gave in!
Full size net, with a custom cut plywood with turf to match the optishot. I put a 4 x 4 hitting mat on top and cut out the sensor holes. Screwed that puppy down and spent 4 hours practicing my swing today.

Pretty sure you don't have it that bad up there, I have two friends that live in Alberta and they just got snow after being relatively snow free from December through February, aside from the occasional snow shower, here in Maine we had over 5 feet of snow at one point! And don't you mean more like 3 month's of winter blues?

One lives on the outskirts of Calgary the other lives outside of Edmonton, though I don't hear much from the one outside of Edmonton, the one in Calgary told me they have had hardly any snow all year that was up until a few weeks ago, in fact he kept rubbing it in my face that it was 50F there with no snow, and I kept telling him I'd be more then happy to send some over to him! I guess it all depends on each persons definition of what a lot of snow is, for me 12 inches or less is not much, on the other hand people who aren't used to snow think even 6 inches is a lot. This year I've looked at snow depth charts to see who has it the worst and much of alberta has less then 15cm, wish I could say the same where I am we have 25-40 cm depending on where you live, but I know what you mean it's hard to be a golfer and have any snow on the courses, hopefully it melts soon for you.

Yeah Calgary is a different story. It is south Alberta and just off of the mountains they get a lot of warm weather.

Edmonton is northern alberta which is about -25/-40 all winter long and lots of snow. The 4 hour drive south makes a huge difference.

Well hopefully you don't have to wait too long for the snow to melt, I for one would love to see our snow gone tomorrow, but it'll likely be another two weeks, if the weather pattern holds, just keep practicing your swing and tell yourself, "it'll be gone soon, and I'll be on the course, just me with my clubs"!

I live farther north of Alberta in Grande Prairie. 70% of the snow is gone. There was an open house at the golf course tonight, and here we may be looking at nine holes opening in a few weeks. They also said if the wind help up it may be possible to get the driving range open within the next few days. Go Oilers!!

    • Day 66: Played 18! Wasn't really keeping track of score, but guessing in the low 80s. Driving okay, iron play up and down, lagging putting really bad. Overall, it was good to get out and play.
    • Day 41 - 2026-01-30 More backswing and grip work on the mat / net. Also some mirror time focused on trail weight.
    • Day 12 (30 Jan 26) -  Had hoped the men’s group would be playing, but the cold temps and delayed opening kept them at bay. Spent some time on the range working on loading the trail foot on the backswing (focusing on loading the inner portion of the foot and collapsing the knee slightly toward the ball). Learned too much really brought on a left pull.  Easing back a bit, really helped compressing the ball and overall accuracy.  Took it to the course for a practice round, focusing on this small change.  Saw better dispersion across the bag….guess this will be part of the mirror work drills as snowpacolypse 2 hits eastern NC.
    • I’d go with the Titleist if you liked the look of the blades but were suffering with distance. They should be a little more forgiving than a full blade and still retain some workability. Also remember to consider the shafts each have as this will be a big contributor to how they feel. Clemsonfan is right though… get fit or spend a bit of time on a launch monitor 🤙
    • Day 28: 2026.01.30 Managed to make time for a few swings out back today. Need a proper bit of range time this weekend.
