Monte Scheinblum, a former long drive champion, made an interesting point on Woods' swing. Video will say more than I can in words, but basically, look how far down he gets to the ball on the "OW!" I popped my joint ligament bone thingy back in swing and how more around he is on the easier less aggresive swing:

Could you post the original video of Monte's? I've gotten some good insights / perspective from his vids, but the swings will look different based on intended shot shape. I think the bottom swing was intended to be a short hook to the green on the left while the top video looks like a hard cut - or maybe punch- to a more distant green.

Haney was talking about Tiger on his show before the final round of the Masters.  He said Tiger always squatted during his swing to push off the ground to create power but that he's noticed it's gotten more severe.   The moving camera makes exaggerates the squat in the top video but the major difference I see is Tiger didn't engage his lower body the same way he did in the lower video.

You're right - the bottom looks to be a hook and the top maybe going for height. Anyways he didn't make a vid but his point was too much of the first - back problems. The second would be better overall for the swing.
