Nice looking wedge.  We're starting to see a lot more options with wedges.

By Mike Stachura

Phil Mickelson may be well known for his short-game virtuosity. Witness the holed bunker shot for eagle in Sunday's final round. Turns out, he not only can hit the shots. He helps design the club that hits the shots, too.

Mickelson's latest famous short game shot came courtesy of Callaway's new Mack Daddy PM Grind wedge, which features a unique shape and groove pattern.

As it turns out, it wasn’t the grooves of the old Ping Eye 2 L-wedge that Mickelson favored so much, it was the high toe shape that resonated more. It’s why wedge guru Roger Cleveland was inspired to design a Phil-specific model for Callaway’s Mack Daddy line, so Phil-specific that Mickelson’s direct input is everywhere on the new model.

The higher toe shape on the new PM Grind aims to provide more confidence and surface area for shots played with an extremely open face. Mickelson played a prototype version while finishing 2nd at last year’s PGA Championship, days after being shown it for the first time. That makes two second-place finishes at major championships for the new wedge in Mickelson's bag.

Those are the most attractive pics of that wedge I've seen.

From address, they are not so hot. They took Ping's high toe and used Edel's idea of expanding the grooves out towards the toe. Nice ideas but still, a fugly wedge (imho). But I've played plenty of fugly clubs that were effective.

From memory of what Roger Cleveland says, the grooves out there help the ball hit groove when opening up. The high toe helps, too, when opening the club; The green dots remove weight and are green for the "color of money."

Wide sole but with enough bounce and sufficient relief to go through tight lies and not dig.

Another weapon.

The grooves going to the edges and top I can get used to, but the pointy high toe is ghastly.

Love the green gems on the back though.

Callaway made a special addition for Marky Mark.

From golfdigest.com

Callaway made Mark Wahlberg a sweet custom "Ted 2" wedge

By Keely Levins

Mark Wahlberg is not only a boss, he's a boss who plays golf.

From a few cameos on the golf course in HBO's hit series "Entourage" to the celebrity golf tournaments he has hosted, Wahlberg has made his love for the game well known.

Wahlberg's next movie is the sequel to "Ted," which is coming to theaters at the end of June. To help Wahlberg celebrate the big event, Callaway made him a custom wedge that the company just finished this afternoon.

This is a Mack Daddy PM Grind wedge, with 56 degrees of loft and 13 degrees of bounce. And yeah, Mark is a lefty, just like Phil Mickelson, who helped design the club in the first place.

While you can definitely get Mack Daddy wedges, it's going to be tough for anyone other than the star of the movie to get the custom Ted design.

It certainly looks a little odd from the player perspective.

    • Fantastic selection! And very little driving between them. Fingers crossed the weather is good to you.
    • Day 20: 2026.01.22 Hit about twenty balls at the range. Quietly pleased with how the changes are bedding in, surprsingly consistent ball flight. Hoping to film over the weekend to capture new movement.
    • You might also consider a tune-up lesson. Check and see if anything in your set-up or basic swing is holding you back. I have been playing for more than five decades, but on occasion I've had to make swing tweaks due to age, loss of flexibility, etc. You don't have to reinvent your swing. A couple of static set-up changes might really help out.
    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
