I have a 27 handicap and my swing speed is 80-85 mph with the driver. I'm looking for some quality steel shafts of good quality, not any old crap like i have now, but they should fit what little game i have. What do you think i should go with?

(p.s. i'm getting new irons too, but they are coming with shafts that i do not want)

my guess is youll want something that doesnt kick too hard and launches high and soft. I'd look at something like the Dynamic Gold GS-75, or even DG Superlight. Both are fairly cheap quality shafts that should fit your game. A low frequency rifle, like the rifle flighted, maybe in something like 5.0. Just steer clear of anything like Project X, Dynamic Gold (everyone plays it, but it really doesnt fit the vast majority of us), Black Gold, or anything really heavy. Good luck

any offerings from any companies besides Royal Precision and True Temper?

Nippon shaft. Amazing quality, Royal Precision price. Nippon makes shafts from 75 grams (superlight for steel) up to 115 grams, (medium weight). They are just great quality, their flexes are right on the money, their weights are accurate. You will see more and more of these in clubs. Titeist offers them, so does Callaway, Nickent, Mizuno, Srixon, Bridgestone and a host of others.

One of the major designers of Rifle went to FST after TT/Rifle merged. I hear they're making some good products now, http://www.fstshafts.com/

Also Aerotech have steel fibre shafts (instead of shafts being extruded steel fibres are wound until they produce a complete shaft), http://www.aerotechgolfshafts.com/ They're supposedly also very good even even though they seem to have problems with consistency, http://www.golftodaymagazine.com/view.php?I=133

I couldn't agree more. Nippon Shaft is very popular in Japan and all the surrounding countries. I have NS Pro 950GH shafts installed on both of my irons sets (Fusion & MP-60) and they felt great.
