Ok, so I was reading some of the threads on shafts, and it got me thinking about if I may need to change my shafts out, according to "Shaft fit" on the true temper site I need stiff, but I hit my irons great. So the question is if it ain't broke do I fix it?

As an example of a good round I shot an 84 today with 10Gir, hit 7 fairways, 36 putts.

I play CG4 tours with regular flex/length/lie/grip. I don't tend to high high fades, more of a high draw 7i has 150yard carry, 3i has about 215 carry.

From a cost benefit side I doubt spending a ton of money on black gold shafts will translate into more than a stroke, but my grips are wearing out so I may need to do that anyway.

Thoughts?

Try it before you buy it...It would seem like you need stiff, i hit my 7 iron about 170 and im hitting 6.0 proj. x, which is about xstiff. But what i wouldnt do is jump the gun and buy stiff shafts. Go to a golf course and hit some iron that is relatively similar to yours with stiff shats, and just see how it goes. You may find that your just more comfortable with reg. shafts.

i'm not looking for distance, only accuracy. I already suffer from inside of 120 yards, I'd rather not expand that range of finess swings.

Like you said, if it ain't broke don't fix it. If you have a smooth swing, you may prefer the R flex. Going off a chart is only a guideline, not a rule. The real proof is on the course and there is nothing wrong with hitting a high draw. Three of the best golfers I know hit that shot and one is a pro, one played on a college scholarship, and the other is a 4. Of course, they can hit other shots as well, but the high draw is their bread and butter. If you are not sure, try a stiff and play with it before you invest and do something that you may not need to do.

if you start to snap-hook the ball but have a good swing, i would get stiffer shafts. if money is an issue, look around other golf forums (although none is better than TST) such as www.golfwrx.com , a lot of their classified/marketplaces are filled with shaft pulls

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
