I have worked a great deal this year using the impact tape on the face of my 3 wood and drivers. Quickly learned I center 9 out of every 10 3 wood shots. But the driver(s) is a totally different story. Cleveland Classic 270 is currently out of the bag... too inconsistent. That leaves me with a Super Tri that I fan to the right. Impact tape shows the hits to be okay vertically but an inch out toward the toe. 8 out of 10 shots show this same strike point. I have already shortened the shaft on the SuperTri by an 1.25 inches. The shortened shaft definitely was a wise decision as shots are very consistent. What can I do to move the impact from toward the toe to the center?  My choices:  1/  Move setting from current neutral to upright neutral?  2/ Open club by 1 degree? or should I Close club by 1 degree (confused) ???   Currently have weights  10g heel-1g rear-1g toe? ???  3/ Have considered setting up over the ball with heel aligned rather than center of face?   Anyone see something that might work to get the impact  point moved away from the toe and back to the center???  BTW If you have not used impact tape before I recommend it during a practice round as a a real confidence builder/

Have you tried various placements of ball position and teeing the ball at different heights?

@cape cod beachfront golfer , you should try switching the heel and tie weights. Since you're hitting out towards the toe pretty consistently, moving the heavier weight out there shifts the CoG out towards the toe, effectively making your hits "closer" to the sweetspot.

Sometimes the logic of adjustments escape me... Moving the weight from heel to toe basically 'slows' the toe down and would straighten the shot if I follow the logic of your suggestion. I will not be playing on Mother's Day but will give it a try early next week. If I wanted to go a bit more extreme... would I OPEN or CLOSE the face adjustment one click to get the same effect?  From early experiments with the SuperTri I never felt comfortable with the club totally closed. Looked totally wrong to my eye and I think I unconsciously altered my swing to account for it.

No, you're just shifting more mass more towards the toe which basically shifts the sweetspot out towards the toe more. Your 1" toe miss will play more like a 1/2" toe miss or so.

That's pretty much the problem with altering the clubface open or closed. If you think it doesn't look right, chances are you are going to do something to compensate for that.

The long term solution is to fix what's going on in your swing that makes you miss out towards the toe. Adjusting your driver (and clubfitting, in general) is meant to optimize your ball flight and minimize the damage from your misses. It's not going to fix your swing flaws, so tweaking around a couple of things on your driver is not going to have you go from spraying the ball right to striping it dead straight. Just try a couple of things and stick with whatever gives you the best results.

I DO stripe the Cleveland Launcher down the middle and it is currently in my bag. Old style 330 cc head looks & feels like a 3wood and I confidently swing the shorter shafted club That was one of the reasons I shorten the SuperTri.  I will definitely try the weight move to the toe. Any comment re: Neutral vs UpRight Neutral??? Thank you for the explanations.

    • You might also consider a tune-up lesson. Check and see if anything in your set-up or basic swing is holding you back. I have been playing for more than five decades, but on occasion I've had to make swing tweaks due to age, loss of flexibility, etc. You don't have to reinvent your swing. A couple of static set-up changes might really help out.
    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
