Then you have to download Greenfinder golf GPS. It works great. Distances to front-middle-back of greens, carry yardages over traps etc.

Sorry, I don't know what a "BES server" is. Does that have something to do with personal email versus business email?

I do not have any business or MS Outlook email configuration installed. I just have my personal hotmail email account set up on the phone. Just last night ... out of nowhere I got 6 new emails on my phone ... and those emails had been open & read on my online hotmail email account 3 years ago. The emails were still in my "inbox" in hotmail, but definitely read & were not new. Not sure why the Pearl decided those were new. I posted my message in another thread on the board & a BB user told me that the "battery pull" was common among BB phones. My wife has the Motorola q9c & NEVER has to pull the battery. I dig BB phones so far, but if it tweaks out on me one more time I'm taking it back. I did go into Verizon & asked them about the goofy-ness on the phone & they also told me that I had to repeatedly pull the battery at times. Sorry, to me that's unacceptable.
Are you on a BES server? yeah i would call into verizon and tell them the "track ball" isnt working or what have you (if your still under warranty). They wont replace it unless its software/hardware related. if its damaged they will also cry and bitch and probably charge you full price for the phone.

BES = Blackberry enterprise server. common in businesses.

Yeah battery pulls are a bandaid fix for problem phones. It needs to be replaced. I deal with 1000s of blackberry users on a weekly basis, and I've carried the pearl for long time.

Dont go into the stores, their all idiots. Call verizon and tell them its power cycling its self randomly (impossible to troubleshoot) They will send you a new one if its under warrenty.

Your wife must have got the only reliable Q9C ever :)

I am thinking of getting a new blackberry...which would you suggest??

Depends on the carrier, if your on

At&t; get the Bold. T-mobile - Curve 8900 Verizon - Curve 8330 US Cellular- Curve Any of the phones above are great phones, probably the best RIM/BB has put out. The storm is an awesome phone and does lots of neat stuff, but is a PITA if you dont know how to load leaked software on it. The problem is the software verizon has on it is garbage... Typing is horrible unless you upgrade software.

I am with AT&T; because I work for them and I get a discount. My GF just got the curve, I think? The Bold huh? I will do some reading on that.

The Bold is the new/improved "curve" type blackberry, while the storm is the new touchscreen. Have only used the storm in person, very impressed with its functionality.

I love my storm, but if you use it to type alot get the curve, i want my curve back. When I had my curve I would send 40-50 emails a day from it, with my storm maybe 10. Typing is just that much of a pain in the ass. But everything else about the phone is great.

I was looking at the Bold and the Curve. The Bold almost looks like the keys are smaller and maybe closer together..is this true? I was looking at pics so that may have been the issue.

Anyone out there surf the forums and post from their blackberry or iphone?

I just got the brand new blackberry, the tour 9630 and I love it. I'm posting on the forums with it too.

I also downloaded an app: bbgps golf, which basically gives me yardage to points on the hole, just like those stand alone gps. It also can tell me the distance I hit a shot and a lot of other cool stuff.

Anyone else know any other cool golf related applications for the blackberry?

I have a blackberry 8310 (oldy and moldy I know, but its served me well for awhile, and I can't part) and I have not the slightest clue how to get all the golf helper apps on it. Does it require the gps?

Yeah, anything that tells you about distance requires gps.

But they do have pretty simple apps like scorecards where you can easily keep track of your strokes, GIRs, fairways hit, putts, etc

iPhone here.

The only app I'm using right now is called "Handicap".

I can enter in courses that I play (saving the slope and rating) and then just plug in my scores and it keeps an accurate handicap for me.

It's not USGA approved mind you, but it lets me know whether I'm trending up or down anyway.

My buddy has the iPhone app that is the GPS on the course. It takes too long to determine your distance.

I have the BlackBerry Pearl 8130, and I too am interested in any distance measuring applications. I haven't installed any apps on my phone as of yet, still trying to figure that out. I guess I have to download something onto my computer to be able to get to the apps on it. I will definitely check out that "bbgps golf" program!

Just got my 9630 too. I think this is (at least) my 3rd BlackBerry. Don't really use it much for golf; save that for the SkyCaddie. Once I'm on the course, the phone goes AWAY!!!

I have a Touch Diamond and use FreeCaddie. My buddy just got an iPhone and has been using that. Can't quite remember the name of the program, but it gives a live Google Maps view of the course, which is pretty neat.
