Yeah, I know it's a dumb question but I cant seem to find the answer...

Also is the measurement from the top of the grip to where the shaft would end if it went all the way through to the lay line of the sole (stellar technical terminology there)?

My standard 5 iron length is 205yds....maybe a little more with roll.


But really, just look at any manufacturer site under "Specs".

I think you will find that most are going to be between 37.75 and 38 inches.

"Standard" is generally accepted to be 38". Measurement is taken from the butt of the club, along the shaft and to the ground when the club is properly soled.

I have a question to? for example is 38 inches is the standar for 5 iron. This is from the top of the grip to the botton of the toe of the club? or from the top of the grip to the end of the shaft?

    • Ah makes sense, so setting up tense means as my arms relax it hoods the club   So doing the opposite of setting up soft would likely keep square or open the face when tense, as opposites attract and all that
