Hi, newbie here.Just started playing golf at the age of 63, two months ago .Played squash to a good level for 40 years but had to have a hip resurfacing operation 18 months ago.Nebvertheless,I am fit for my age although ROM is not what it was. Consequently, looked for a swing that was easy on the back and joints. Came across Jimmy Ballard on You tube and have been pleased with progress so far, concerning iron play, pitching and chipping but having problems with driver and hitting behind the ball. Would appreciate any positive advice for improvement. I am retired, so time for practice is not a problem.Thank you.

Hello and welcome!

I am not familiar with Jimmy Ballard and am not an accomplished golfer but loosely in order of what I think is most important here:

  1. The 5SK system (Five Simple Keys®) and the 5SK video thread .
  2. Simple, Specific, Slow, Short, and Success - The Five "S"s of Great Practice thread.
  3. 65/20/15 Practice Ratios: Where to Devote Your Practice Time thread.
  4. 3 Keys to Better Putting thread.
  5. Quickie Pitching Video - Golf Pitch Shot Technique thread.

I do think pretty much everything in the Swing Thoughts is useful and helpful but from a practical standpoint those cover quit a bit.

You might also consider getting a copy of Lowest Score Wins if you find the information here helpful.

I can not offer and help or advice on the driver.

Mike

Not sure by what you mean hitting behind the ball with driver.  Most of the time we would want the driver hitting the ball off the tee on the upswing.

Old thread not-with-standing, I have a little trouble hitting driver on the upswing. Attack is near level or even slightly negative. Something I need to work on, its not really hurting me though, but certainly could use more distance.  A lot has to do with optics, I am just not comfortable over a ball tee'd up high and will sometimes hit it on the crown. Probably ball placement.
