new to the hybrid game, have questions.

I am used to the Driver, 3w,5w, 3i-pw, sw type set up in clubs from when I played before. hybrids were kind of a novelty thing in my area more and something for those that needed a lot of help. but as they are more normal to see now days and in most sets somewhere. what hybrids replace what clubs? I know love of a wood or iron cant be directly transferred when expecting a certain range. anyone have a chart or formula what replaces what? I have hit some when messing around at the fitters and they fit my type of swing rather well where I play the ball and how the bottom of my arc is at the bottom of the ball.

also what hybrids would typically complement RSi clubs? I dont want to have it feel like I am using completely different sets it's bad enough I am using a cobra biocell as my driver as is but its what worked for me at the shop. and with the RSi there is offset in long irons, should I get what ever hybrids in an offset version as well?

Typically, the hybrids are numbered to indicate which club they replace. For example, I have a 3-hybrid to replace what would have been my 3-iron. You can also look at lofts for an approximation, although launch angles and shaft weight might cause that to be inexact. Also, although it's not a hybrid, no gap wedge for you? You describe 12 clubs, and I assume you carry a putter too.

You're using the RSi 1 irons? The 3 iron is 17 degrees so there really isn't much room for a hybrid. You could ditch the 3 iron and go with an AeroBurner 3 Rescue (19 degrees).

to answer the first question: I only had a basic set back then (odd number irons only were included so was a 10 piece set and that was counting the bag+putter.), and only picked up a SW. I am just now getting back to getting things set up as Ive been away from the game (15 or so years ago)

for the second question: I dont have the RSi (rather the clones of such) yet, selling an older car I had sitting around and will be getting enough to get a better set then the thrift shop set Ive been using. I am "ok" with long irons but the hybrids seemed to play nicely and a bit easier.

I was thinking the hybrids would replace the irons but I found they shot a good deal further # for #, loft* for loft*. and not quite as far as the fairway woods of the same numbers/lofts. trying to get as smooth of a gapping as I can. I noticed most people drop the 5w, 3i,4i and pick up just the 3h and either 4h or 5h

Yes it all depends on the player and your set makeup. I have a 15° fairway, an 18° hybrid and then a 21 ° 3 iron. I've also had a set where I went with a 17 ° hybrid, a 20 ° hybrid and then to a 23 ° 4 iron.

This depends on whether you're talking about traditional or iron-replacement hybrids. Traditional hybrids fall between FWs and long irons in loft and shaft length. Iron-replacement hybrids are matched to replace longer irons of a particular club model. Here's my comments from an earlier post in 2013t:

Depends a lot on which type of hybrid you're talking about.

Hybrids of the early 2000s generally fell between FWs and long irons in the distance they delivered. For these hybrids, the shafts were longer than long irons, but shorter than FWs. Also, hybrids tended to have a very high launch. Some people started replacing long irons with hybrids, with a 4H outdistancing a 3i.

Recently, some companies have been offering iron replacement hybrids. Mizuno is an example with its Fli-Hi DLR (direct long-iron replacement) varieties.

MP Fli-Hi offers a 2H (no 2i), but also a 3H and 4H that match the MP series 3i and 4i exactly for loft and shaft length.

JPX Fli-Hi offers a 2H (no 2i) plus 3, 4, and 5Hs that match the JPX 800 irons.

TaylorMade gets interesting with the RocketBallz line. For the straight-up (non-Tour) RBZ hybrids...

RBZ 3H = 19* / 41" .... RBZ 3-iron = 17.5* / 39.5"

+ 1.5" shaft length should trump 1.5* loft difference to give the 3H more distance....

TM touts the RBZ 3i, 4i, and 5i as having "metalwood-inspired" head construction. Are these clubs covert hybrids?
