For the 2 years I have been playing golf I have been swinging up on my irons instead of down which of course has made me incredibly inconsistent. Ive recently begun to try to change my angle of attack. It is VERY hardwork to do but its a must. For anyone else going through this, here is a great video with drills:

For me that would be hard to do with a half shot as I wouldn't feel like I'm really committing to the shot. I would pretty much already set my weight/ hips slightly forward and try to get over towards my front foot.

If you're hitting it fat(hitting ground before ball) you're probably swaying back or not set up right (which bottoms the arc out early), if you just practice not swaying then you should naturally end up with your weight forward.

That's what worked for me anyway  .

Been playing properly since May 2014, got the bug now, so I'm here forever. Must have watched a billion hours of youtube videos, seems to help!

How could you golf for 2 years "hitting up" on your irons? I would have gone crazy a month in and quit.

    • Day 556 - 2026-04-10 Played another 17 holes, this time skipping #11 to pass a group that was still on 14 when we were finishing up. 😛 Not as good as yesterday, but more distracted by the mind's eye.
    • Yes, you've gone on about it for like 20 years now. 😉
    • I really do find the masters stuffed shirts to be insufferable. Or is it instufferable?
    • I'm hearing this morning that Robert MacIntyre may be facing some sort of discipline (probably a stern warning) for the finger incident on 15 yesterday.  It dawns on me his upbringing would have been during Tiger's prime years -- he's 29 now, and would have been in elementary school in the early 21st century.  Someone should tell him that the swearing wasn't what made Tiger great at golf.   Or John Daly (or Don January?) or whoever else we associate with both being good at golf and producing choice words on television.
