I've been playing golf for about 4 years now. I love to practice and I love inventing drills then testing them at the range. One of the regulars at the range had a one iron and I tried hitting it. It's a very difficult club to swing. Impossible to hit if you have too fast a tempo or a flaw in your swing. I got the hang of it by slowing down my tempo, now I can hit it pretty well. I would never use it on the course but for a training club it is great. For me it is serving two purposes; 1) It acts like a self correcting tempo timing club, if you swing too fast the ball goes nowhere or you get a very painful vibration in your forearms and 2) It makes every club in my bag extremely easy to hit. I bought a maxfli australian blade on ironfinder.com, it is a real bitch to get solid contact on the sweet spot but when you do what a great feeling it is. The more I practice with it, the more I'm hitting pure shots with my clubs, it feels like I've discovered a new training device. I have an orange whip which I think is the greatest training aid there is, I also have one of those short weighted clubs which is great for in the house training. I go to the range 4 days a week and hit 100 balls each session, and I play 3 days a week. I do probably an hour of drills a day for 4 to 5 days a week plus a daily 2 mile jog and some other assorted exercises. Anyone else use a one iron for a training aid ?

The key is to practice at the edge of your ability. You shouldn't have to work too hard to get it to work.http://thesandtrap.com/t/54840/simple-specific-slow-short-and-success-the-five-s-s-of-great-practice
