I would probably say 3-4, 2 on a good day. I hate loosing balls. Especially when I just bought them. Usually I even out by finding a few each round though.

Played 27 holes over three days and only lost one ball - today on the 16th tee. Tried to murder the ball - huge shoulder turn and then dove at the ball (is that even the right word? My partner said he'd never seen someone's head dip that badly...) trying to produce a monster drive...well, the result was a ball that went further left than forwards, so, yeah. That was more of a Tin Cup fault than a bad shot, though.

Here's something for everyone to consider though - are your balls lost balls because of risky and aggressive shots or just...plain bad ones? Let me clarify first:

A ball lost because you tried to cut a corner and failed would be one because of a risky shot.

A ball you topped/thinned/chunked/dribbled into the water or sliced OB is just a bad shot.

I play 2 rounds with each new ball when I'm practicing. Then I toss it in the shag bag. In tournaments, I change every nine holes if there is no reason to change it. I get my balls for free from Titleist so I'm lucky. Balls are so expensive! Please see my book: "Striking It Rich" to learn that yes, I do lose balls on the course but almost never in water hazards. Its usually in 4" rough.

My lost balls are typically due to really poor aim, a problem I've since fixed. I never knew how to align myself, so the ball would go reasonably straight... in the wrong direction. The swing was sound.

Or the result of a blind tee shot. On Tee #10 at my home course (Woodley Lakes), you're hitting over a lake/marsh. It's nice, but I have trouble finding the ball afterwards, usually asking other guys in my group "Hey, if you find a Bridgestone e6, please let me know." One day, when I was driving it particularly well, a partner (a random pairing) told me immediately afterwards that my shot was in the center of the fairway, same as my other shots. Sure enough, it was when we found it.

The most I have ever lost is 13. If I took 10 rounds and took away the 2 highest and 2 lowest number of balls lost my average would probably be 2-3. The course I was a member at 7 years ago didn't have as many places to lose balls and I would often play with the same one for 2-3 rounds but my current course is very punishing on wayward shots.

Hi cbe_golfer

You've got to get my book through Amazon. Look it up to read reviews, backstory, etc. Thank you very much. If you like it, tell your friends on the sand trap and elsewhere. You can read the first chapter on www.reidsheftall.com

I think I'm on a roll...
Actually,I need to give credit to my new driver and a less violent swing off the tee bacause of it. (It's my first 460cc driver). I played in a 2-man Monster Best Ball tourney on Sat (from the tips) and only lost 1 ball. That's 3 lost balls in my last 3 rounds. I like it.

I tend to lose 1-2 balls per 18. Last weekend I lost 2, the first I am pretty sure that someone else coming up the other hole hit my ball, and the second I lost due to it getting too dark.

I'm a 9.6 H.I and I lose about 1 ball a round. The course is surrounded by woods but little to no water. I've been fortunate enough thus far to keep it on the fairway or at the edge of the trees... Hopefully this post doesn't jinx me for the 08 season

I havent lost a ball in ages . simply put i never play a hero and try to overpower the greens with a strong shot . always play it safe in all courses . it keeps your handicap down and you end up being a better player . i have seen scratch players loose more balls compared to average low handicap players for the simple reason that they think they can get away with a shot from any undecent lie . well they now know that it is luck and 9 out of ten they either end up in the pond or the roof of the houses . play smart ... you will enjoy more .
