OK just trying to wrap my head around something...I just started playing golf again after taking a few years off.  My drive has always been the best part of my game.  I have always been a comfortable confident driver, never a real issue.  After spending some time at the range I have my distance back but I'm spraying the ball all over.  I've slowed down my swing, tried to quiet my hips, and for the most part back in control but I have to be very careful or I start spraying the ball all over again.  Hooks are my biggest problem.

Played several rounds over the past few months, things seam to be getting back in order...

Time to do some iron work.  Hit the range.  Iron work came together pretty good.  Before I leave the range lets hit a few drives.

At this point my drive is gone.  First 5 balls, horrible,  next 5 a little better but still not good.  I start screwing with my swing and its takes me a couple days to get my drive back in shape.

Ok, got my drive back, pick up a few irons, now the irons are out of shape.

Get the irons working, now I have to reset my driver.

I never have this trouble on the course, buts its crazy at the range.  Does muscle memory, tempo, club weight, etc.. cause that much trouble at the range...  How long does it take after hitting 30 drives to get your iron swing back.

I know how to hit my irons, I know what I have to do to hit my driver, but it seams after hitting several irons or several drives it takes a little while to get my brain back in gear when I switch clubs.

Any thoughts

Back about 2001, I took some lessons from a Division II college golf coach. He had this advice on practicing the driver:

Hit a few chips and wedges and a couple of 7 irons to loosen up, and then go to your driver. The driver is the longest club in the bag, and takes the most energy to control. So, practice driver early before you start getting tired.

Focus, connect and follow through!
