What's your opinion on them? Has anyone hit them before? Any advice on them that would help me get an early start to avoiding mistakes. Also how would I go about getting in a tournament to compete to become semi pro amateur etc.

I don't think I am much of a help to you being a high handicap player - yet: I played them for 12 months. Good clubs, had lots of fun with them. I bought PING clubs just because I don't like TaylorMade's marketing and their approach to releasing a new golf club every month.

I just picked up a set from taylormadepreowned and love them. Ball launches high, seem to be a bit longer than my previous Burner XDs and the feel off the face is great. I really don't have a bad thing to say about them.

I have the Speedblade 6i in my bag from back in the halcyon days when Taylormade would give away golf clubs every year for people to demo. I love it. It's stronger in loft than my 5i, so I use it instead of the 5i. It's great because it launches the ball super high, super easy, and is perfect for longer 180 yard par 3s. It's a loud (LOUD) club to hit, so make sure you like that before you buy it. The gunmetal finish is spectacular. These may be my favorite looking golf clubs. I'd buy them in a heartbeat if I were buying new irons. The lofts get funky in the short irons, though, so make sure those are OK. There are some big gaps, if I recall. If you buy the wedges, know that they're actually usable blade-style wedges and not cavity back ones (I think that's a good thing, but different strokes for different folks).

I play them now.

They're designed to fly the ball high. I already hit a high ball, so I can't really tell you that they are any better in that regard.

Stock steel shafts are light at 85g. Most iron steel shafts are ~105g.

I have found them quite playable over the past two seasons. For their current price you could do worse.

My plan is to change soon though because I've decided to drink a different kool-aide when it comes to lofts and gaps. The Speedblade 6 iron is 26.5* of loft which is quite strong. Sounds really cool, but regardless of iron #, that loft or less starts one into "harder to hit" territory.

If you want a solid set of modern irons with some of the newer design concepts, get the Speedblades and pocket your savings.

Now as far as becoming amateur, you're already there!

Congrats and good luck.

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir, and I never slice.

They do have a high trajectory, especially on long irons. I love the 4 iron.

The stock grips are very playable. I have the sweatiest palms known to man and I still play the stock grips.

The lofts are all strong, but the TM gimmick is that they are longer because of the stronger lofts, but still have a nice, high ball flight that lands softly. I added 5-10 yards per club with a better ball flight. I couldn't get my old 4-iron to spin for anything. I can hold greens at 200 yards with this 4-iron (when I hit them ;-) , like 1 out of 4 tries).

You can find them for $400 on EBay now. Go get them!

I've been using P - 5i for 9 months now.   Like others noted, they have higher trajectory, hits longer (stronger loft) without compromising on accuracy.   I also get good distance separation with 6i, 5i & 4h.   With previous Callaway X-20 irons, I did not get clear distance separations with 6i, 5i & 4i.   It could be that I have improved on my swing.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
