from 13.5 to 8.5... and it's still going down!

hope to reach under 7.5 for next year.... to pass from 85 to 80... ok, but from 80 to 75, it takes more experience, well for me!

cheers, Julien

I should have been about a 25 handicap beginning of this year. I took up golf in May 2006. Beginning of this year, i was still losing about 10 balls in a round. Today, a solid..well..not-so-solid 15.1. Havent given up on improving this year. I wonder how many still think their best round of golf this year is ahead of them.

I've been tracking it at greenskeeper.org since Golf Magazine bailed on their handicap tracker earlier this year.

Technically, I started at 30.4 - but that was the result of two horrendous rounds in April.

Once I got a few rounds in for 'real', I hovered around 19 in June/July and finished up the golf league season at 17.0. So I'm at least heading in the right direction.

My handicap only dropped about 0.5 this year but I am playing my best golf of the year. I spent most of the year building, testing and tweaking clubs so my bag is pretty much set for next year.

I hope to play and practice a lot more in 2008 and hopefully my index will drop at least 2-3 points.

have only been playing 6 months, first handicap was 25.6 but should be cut to 18 next season cause my last few rounds were in the low 80s but they have not updated it yet.

After my update last Friday, I finished the year with a 0.0 handicap. I've been playing 6 years with the last two being not very active due to college. I really worked hard this summer to lower my scores. Made a couple of swing changes, practiced a ton, and I am still working on changing my mental approach(this is the toughest).

I do not have an official "beginning handicap" as I did not have an official USGA handicap. I kept track of it with the handicap tracker from Golfsmith. According to that, it started as around a 2.5 at the beginning of the year.

I started at a 17.9 and finished today at 14.8. It was 40 degrees today so I don't see myself playing much the rest of the year. I had an 81 this year - my lowest round ever, and had my highest ever GIR average for the year and the lost average number of putts per round. I can't wait for Florida in February.

I dont have an official handicap but at the start of the year i was shooting high 90's so i'd guess ~25 handicap. Tracked my scores and did the official method of calculating the handicap and at the final round my handicap was a 14.7. Good year for no lessons.

I started with 20.6 and ended with 14.1.

This is the first time I have even been able to get out regularly, so I'm hoping I can continue to improve. Unfortunately, it is going to have to wait until next year because the weather has changed sufficiently that getting out is going to be rare events.

As luck would have it, my 5th round of the year (which I believe is the earliest you can actually establish a handicap) was one of my best: 80 at a really tough, first-time course. 7.5 differential, so a 7.1. Currently at an 8.2 (I hope to get another round or two in before the year is out). I use my own spreadsheet to track my data so my index is real-time, if not actually "official."

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

I started the year at a handicap of 11.6 AGU

My handicap now is 6.6 but I have got it as low as 6.2 AGU

Summer is just about to start here in Australia and so during the school holidays I am hoping that I can shave at least another shot from my handicap.

    • I don’t understand why this concept is hard for people. If the ball is lost, it is lost. It doesn’t matter where they think it should be, or whether they feel like it should be lost. The bottom line is they don’t have a ball in play. I play with some people that will just drop with one stroke (if they even take a stroke at all). Frankly, I don’t care since it’s not a competition, but if they go bragging at the bar later that they shot “85” because I will call them out on it every time.
    • I played in Open Qualifying about 25 years ago. I got to the last hole - I shan't share my score, but it wasn't good. It's a long uphill par 4 with the clubhouse just long left of the green. The clubhouse is out of bounds. I hit my second shot left and it got a firm bounce. Get up there and the clubhouse has a patio. Between the patio and a grass is a little channel filled with pebbles. In that channel is my ball. Channel is in play, but hardly ideal. About 8 inches behind my ball also in the channel is a sprinkler head. So I asked an official who happened to be on the patio whether I got relief or not. He had me set up to it and take a backswing. My club hit the sprinkler head (harder than I would have liked). He asked me to do it again (side note - WTF?) and I hit the sprinkler again. He begrudgingly gave me relief and I dropped it on the grass, pitched on the green and missed from about 8 feet. Holing it would have allowed me to break a certain score threshold I'd rather not flirt with. Following year, I played same course, same event and I played a LOT better. I birdied 17 to go back to even par for the day. Friend of mine told me it looked like even was playing off for last spot, but birdie on 18 would get me through (this was local qualifying, so through to final qualifying). I hit my drive in the heather right, went for it from there and pulled it heather left and wound up making double to not be in the play off (which wound up being about 8 people for 2 spots). But I digress - anyway, as I walked off 18 green I walked over to the patio where the scorers were and noticed that they had painted a white line on the grass next to that Channel, so they fixed my issue from the previous year, albeit in a way that would have been much more detrimental to my score.
