Currently using Mizuno's MX 25's...hitting them really thin and not much distance. The Raptures are pricey but I've read nothing but good things. Any feedback would help. Thanks.

A guy besides me in a driving range was using Ping Rapture. I borrowed his 3 Woods and I hit around 200 yards, which is almost the same distance with my driver (TaylorMade R7 TP Quad).

Then I also tried his IRONS (3,4,5) which I have no difficulty hitting my shots unlike with my Spalding Overdrive Irons which I already taken out from my bag. So, I think Ping Rapture is a good stuff. If you ever got one, just let me know how it works for you because I'm also planning to buy in the near future. ---------------- Now playing: Don Henley - The Boys of Summer via FoxyTunes

I just ordered a set of PING G10 irons. Definitely easy to get in the air and hit straight. I have been told that the G10s are pretty much the same technology as the Raptures only without the super-hot face, so you lose a little distance. You might consider G10s as a lower cost alternative to the Raptures.

In my C-130 bag:

Driver: G10 10.5*
3 Wood: Burner
Irons: G10 steel AWT shafts, silver dot, +1" (3-SW)Wedge: cg12 58*Putters: Squareback 2, California Coronado Low score (18 holes): 90Low score (9 holes): 42

with your handicap (14) i would definetly go with the s58 irons. I've hit them numerous times, and was really close to buying them. Ultimately I went with the MP-60 because they were forged and I just liked the way they fealt. But he s58 are by far the best Ping irons out there: not loaded with technology, not that funky "Ping" look, good penetrating trajectory, decent feel for a cast club, good forgiveness... everything you would want in a club

I hit the s58's and i10's and went with the i10's. More forgiving than the 558's with a bit higher ball launch, but still good feel and less offset. I would agree with FalconBaller to hit some different clubs with your handicap. I switched from G2's to the i10's because I found they had too much offset and too high a ball launch, and as I work to get my handicap down, my instructor recommended I move away from the 'game improvement iron' which the Rapture fits into.

Find a demo day and hit them all and see what you like.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
