Jack NEVER won AP Male Athlete!

I had to look the list of past winners over 3 times------NO Jack Nicklaus! Oh, there are golfers there-----Tiger (4 times),  Lee (1971), Ben Hogan (1953---only golfer in history to win the Masters, US Open, and Open Championship IN THE SAME CALENDAR YEAR), Lord Byron Nelson (1944 and 1945----when he won 18 tournaments, and 11 in a row---RECORDS THAT WILL NEVER BE BROKEN) and Gene Sarazen (1932).           And Jack never won it even once! And Jordan Spieth got fewer 1st place votes than a HORSE!!! Gimme s break! This is disgraceful!

It is simple.  Jack's career was playing at a very high level for a long time.  But his peaks were never as high as the peaks of other players such as Hogan and Tiger (I don't count Nelson because of the obvious issue of the war).  He would have a much easier time competing in an award such as "athlete of the quarter century"  than athlete of the year.

Yeah, that.

Jack was steady, but not often spectacular.

You are right, and his long term steadiness meant that his opponents ranged from Arnie in 1960 (at the US Open at Cherry Hill) to the Shark in 1986, when Jack won the Masters at the age of 46.

You are right.  He has accomplished so many worthwhile awards, and the 18 Professional Majors, the victories in the US Amateur and NCAA tournaments are quite a career.  But I will bet if you asked him what his greatest achievement is, he would answer that being a good husband to Barbara and a good father to their children was his greatest.

None of which has anything at all to do with the topic you chose for the thread.

Is there a particular year you think Jack should have received it?
