I haven't been playing long, but I am a reasonable putter. That said, I have been going through a bad patch, and haven't owned a putter I feel confident with. I just invested in a used Odyssey White Ice Teron putter, and although it hasn't been out on the course yet, the feel of the club in my hands is a million miles away from what I have been using. I am also going to experiment with focusing on the hole from short distances. There are mixed opinions on this, but it's worth a go.

The few times I have holed long putts, I was focused on the hole and not the ball.  Generally, on the practice green focusing on the hole is great for getting the line correct.  My line is almost always correct when I do that.  The problem is distance control.  At shorter distances I tend to hit it too hard and on longer distances I tend to hit it too soft.

Now it does help to practice this distance control.  But I still do better at distance control when looking at the ball.

I have been working on putting with a more upright posture.  I typically putt very bent over (not like Michelle Wie) and choked down on the putter.  I've been really sucking lately, so today I did my old crouch and putted like I used to putt (which was much better).  I'm going to get out this week and work on it some more.  I'm tired of never making any birdie putts.

I like Rory's putting motion. Seems like he "taps" his putts.

Sometimes have a problem with my putting where I get this "rebound" acceleration at the very end on my stroke (think Greg Norman at end of his swing)

I think it's good to have a SAM putting lab done and try to get an bell shape shape curve like the above velocity graphs  I think this gives the smoothest delivery into the ball and then figure out the fine details with a teaching pro.

Just an update on my putting stroke.  I been able to feel more gentle  "held off finish"

Don't have any SAM numbers but I think my  "rebound and jerky" finish was due to trying to brake an accelerating release

one thing that has helped it to try to keep the butt end pointed to my midsection during my stroke and swing from there and not to accelerate with my arms and shoulders
