Hi,

First post here. I'd like to get my dad a birthday surprise and take him to a tour event this year or next. I was targeting the 2017 US Open but the course looks kind of blah so looked at the 2016 US Open. I figured I'd put it out there to get others' opinions on what you would do in this situation. I'm open to going about anywhere in the continental US. The masters may be an option for 2017, maybe not. Looks kind of pricey. I appreciate everyone's input.

Thanks,

TD

Masters tickets are extremely scarce, so I assume they're extremely pricey on the open market.  US Open tickets aren't nearly so pricey, and not so difficult to get.  Considering the cities, I think that both Pittsburgh and Milwaukee would be fun places.  I've never played either course, but I don't see Erin Hills as looking blah.  Where do you and your dad live?  How far from home would you prefer to travel?  Are there any other courses near either one, or along the route to or from, that you'd like to play on your journey?  I can think of the Whistling Straits group in WI, or maybe Nemacolin Woodlands in PA.  Have you looked at the PGA Championships, I see Baltusrol, NJ and Quail Hollow, NC.  Even the "routine" PGA events can be a lot of fun to attend.  I know, no answers and a lot of questions.  Good luck!

From Omaha. Ok to get on a plane or drive but like the idea of taking clubs. Erin Hills is about an hour from Milwaukee it looks. I haven't looked at other tour options. I want it to be a big enough event to get the big names there.
