I don't often get a picture, but I've seen javalina, a wild turkey, rattlesnakes, jackrabbits, coyotes, a bobcat, roadrunners, red tail hawks, hummingbirds, and of course lots of other birds (my favorite being the vermillion flycatcher), and of course squirrels and plain little bunnies.  My son rolled a ball into a jackrabbit in the middle of a fairway, it didn't really react.  And the only time he's ever stopped me mid backswing was for the bobcat crossing the fairway.  One course I play has some more domesticated wildlife over a fence, a loud rooster, goats, pigs, and other "urban farm" animals.

A friends story, not mine, and maybe technically not "wild"life. Buddy gets to the course and there is a dog near the clubhouse, talks to starter and says he's just been hanging around (a stray). Ends up following my 2 friends through 13 holes before finding someone that he didn't like (another golfer of course), and started going crazy. Of course the other golfer on a different hole is like "get your dog away from me!!!!" but it wasn't their dog. Kind of funny, interesting story.

I love seeing Cooper's hawks and blue herons at my local courses. If I were more of a birder, my round length would go from 2 hours to 6 hours though.

The only time my wife has ever been on a golf course with me, we walked up on a ten foot gator sunning itself on the bank of a pond.

This guy came right up to our cart in Myrtle Beach a couple years ago, gave him a couple nuts from my trail mix and he was happy.

1st thing that comes to mind is Muscovy Ducks.  Typically a popular farmyard duck.  Often comes in variations of Black, Gray and white.

We see all kinds of critters from time to time.

Entire herds of deer more or less run around our courses in the winter time after most people hang em up. We've seen coyotes this year. Sometimes we'll have turkeys. But one constant fixture are these guys and their poop. Poop all over the place.

It is, of course, the Cobra Chicken.

I see all kinds of wildlife on the golf course:

  • Deer
  • Coyotes
  • Rattlesnakes
  • Bull snakes
  • Turkeys
  • Magpies (these asshole birds …)
  • Eagles and hawks

I have yet to get too close to a live rattlesnake, but those are pretty much the only things on this list that scare me. Magpies suck because they'll raid your stuff for food, but they're not scary. The most interesting wildlife thing I've seen on the golf course was a hawk landing in front of me with half a rabbit in its talons. That was lovely.

I'll try to remember to grab some pictures next time I see some unusual wildlife.

This male didn't want me to get too close, hence the tree in the photo.

This beaver has been in the pond near our 10th green for a while.  Definitely a big guy!

    • Day 292: light day today. Mirror work, working on getting my hips more open in the downswing.
    • Day 135 (27 Apr 24) - played Bradford Creek today while waiting for the missus fly in from her extended visit with the grands.  Good day to stay focused as it was a hurry up (groups pressing from behind) and wait (groups taking their time ahead)…a good day to stay mentally in the game - play the shot and not get frustrated in the waiting…
    • Day 122: 4/27/24 Supposed to be a Stack training day but I was beat after yard work today. Practiced chipping and putting at The Creek. The practice green is pretty slow but the session went well.
    • Went to the range today and was cursing myself when I got there as I realized I forgot my phone. I added an earlier wrist hinge to the short backswing I was using last time practicing and ball strikes were really good for the most part. I'm heading back to Boston Thursday to see friends and family and have a couple of rounds planned so I'm hoping to keep this feeling.  Yesterday morning I weighed in at 232. My goal had been 230 but maybe now it's 220. I'll have to think about that. I feel so much better without the extra 90 lbs. from 2 years ago. Still a softl slightly less protruding belly so it might be time to go hard on eating better. Work in progress.
    • Day 7- Went to the range and hit a bucket. Also did some chipping and putting.
