Just got my first BIRDIE!!!

As the title says....sorry I am a little excited.

Today I got my first birdie!!! It was a Par 4, 420yd slight dogleg left.

I have been using my friends driver (older model Taylormade) b/c I have not taken ownership of my new one yet, and I was really just spanking the ball today off the tee.

I am 22 and have been golfing for about 4-5months. I play once a week and sometimes get to the driving range once or twice a week. I have been improving very quickly thanks to golfing with friends who have been playing 10-12 years and can show me what I am doing wrong while on the course.

Anyway, I drove the ball faar down the middle, cutting the dog leg and landing about 240-250yds on the right side. There are greenside bunkers on the right and left. I took a five iron a little too fast, and popped the ball about 10-15yds left of the pin in the middle of a bunker. I stroll up, take out my (new) Cleveland sand wedge, and swing. ...the ball gets up so softly, lands, and rolls slowly along the slope of the green... and dropped in the hole!!!! I was so pumped I yelled out and probably pissed a couple people off... I don't care though, they weren't makin any birdies, and I was!

Anyway just wanted to share. Anyone else remember their first birdie/eagle/hole in one? I love this game.

Nice going Platinum! I made a 2 on a par five once- a five wood into the hole on a 540 yard par-5. I wasn't positive it went in but I thought so. I looked at my caddy without saying a thing. She looked back at me and didn't say anything either (but she saw it go in). I realized it was a 2 about 100 yards from the green. I've never made a hole in one though.

Congrats! And you did something very few people do: play your first birdie to the hole. I've heard a number of "first birdie" stories that involve a conceded putt of interesting length. One guy's "first birdie" was really his first GIR. And those aren't real birdies in my mind. 2 foot conceded, maybe. But 20 yards? No. Yours, however, was a real birdie! And you don't have to ever again have the nervousness of a putt for your first birdie, because you did it with a sand wedge. Holing out from a bunker must be a great feeling. I shall have to try it sometime. My first birdie was on a par-3s course; 122 yard 7 iron, 2 foot putt (made, not conceded). My first birdie on a regulation course was a 136 yard 6-iron and a ten foot putt that surprised my friend, as I'd been missing putts of any real length all day. Yet to make one on a longer-than-par-3 hole (or even longer than 136 yards, for that matter). My first eagle and first ace: forthcoming! So are yours, I gather?

Not exactly sure what this has to do with "swing tips," but congratulations. I don't remember my first birdie, but I remember my first eagle. Then I hit that ball in the water. Don't lose this feeling even when you start to make birdies in bunches. This is why we play.

My first birdie was when i was 10 years old and made the green on the last hole and sunk it from 30ft to finish off my round. Then a few months ago I holed out with my pitching wedge for an eagle to beat my playing partner in match play 6 & 4. So thats always a fun way to finish up.

My first birdie on a regulation course was a 136 yard 6-iron and a ten foot putt that surprised my friend, as I'd been missing putts of any real length all day. Thanks! The closest I have ever been on a par 3 is about 5yds from the pin, hit the green about 30% of the time so far.. Yours sounds like just the most perfect iron shot, set you up perfectly. I have yet to make an eagle/hole in one as well, so gotta just keep playing hard. Thanks for the responses from everyone else. Fried Egg your right, this doesn't belong in swing tips, so I will try to make it fit. What do any of you suggest would help in trying to maintain the most consistent swing?

It was luck. I know how I was swinging then, and there's no way it was anything else.

Good practice, so you can trust it. Correct trust builds good consistency.

MY first birde i remember i hit a 2 iron of the tee dead straight left me half a wedge landed behind the stick and rolled off, then i putted of the fringe 30 ft then in hahaha

I got my first birdie earlier this year. It was hole #6 at Virginia Oaks on Lake Manassas (adjacent to RTJ at Lake Manassas, site of The Presidents Cup). It's a 515 yd (from the gold tees) par 5. I hit a lucky long (for me) straight shot from tee, then another good but short fairway wood that left me about 105 out. My pitching wedge put me 15 feet pin high on the green and I sank it. I can't even begin to explain the feeling, but it left me when I put 2 in the lake on the par 3 9th.
