Hello,

i have currently had a six month lay off due to university but I have finished the year and have a golf holiday coming beginning of June. Before I went to university I was playing off 2 and doing well looking like it could possibly go down. I have been to the range today and couldn't hit it, I wasn't able to hit two balls in the same place it was a nightmare.

My my question is do you think that is just because of the lay off and i will start hitting balls properly again after a few more sessions or do you think I should try and get some more lessons and start from scratch again?

thanks :-)

I came back after a 2 year vacation from golf. This due to injuries. My first 9 holes back were pretty bad.

I started out slow with no expectations. Wasn't even sure if I would ever be able to break 100 again. However, the more I played, the better my scores were. Took about 6 months to see scores in the high 80s. Another 4 months to shoot a 79.

My guess is you should take it slow and easy at first to let your swing muscles catch up to what you are wanting them to do.

Most likely is just because you have been away from the game for a while.  If you were playing off 2, I would have to assume your swing was pretty grooved and it is just as simple as playing for a few days and everything will come back.  A lot of golf is muscle memory, especially the full shots so that will come a lot quicker than around the green, which is more touch so that can only come with lots of practice.

I say don't re-invent the wheel.  Just practice so that you get back to doing what you were good at

Every year I have a 3-5 month layoff, known as winter.  My game has always come back.  I expect yours will, too.  Give it a bit of time and if you don't start seeing the old game, then talk to a pro.

I'm just starting to play again after a more-than-six-month layoff, and I took a huge step back.  Admittedly, I am a MUCH worse golfer as a baseline (average score in the mid-90's), but still...everything still feels extremely awkward.

Interestingly - I think the short game was actually the worst part.  Putting, chipping and pitching felt terrible...although it seemed like they "came back" quickly after a practice round or two.

Definitely looking forward to getting back in shape.
