With the winter season coming on I am looking to improve my game. I am getting more solid with ball striking, but can see that the short game is really a big hinderence in scoring for me.

My driver is pretty consistent for about 200 to 220 meters. I rarely hit anything OB or past the rough.

Any suggestions on what I should work on, and any drills or tips?

I am working on accuracy within 100 meters right now.

I joined Golftec for the next six months. There, I can take up to thirty lessons and then unlimited practice in one of their four indoor booths. One of the nice things about golftec is that as a member, I can use any one of the many tools that are available during practice, including slow motion video/computer analysis, dynamic body sensors, impact bag, etc. I'm currently using their 60 fps camera to view my release and wrist press position at impact. Before, I thought my hands were forward of the ball at impact, but the cameras don't lie, instead showing a flipping action. So now, I'm making use of some anti-casting drills to improve this fault of mine. Maybe in the spring, I won't see as many skulled and fat shots.

gbk,

Make sure you keep your arms and body swinging together and nsync. One of the hardest things to get back after a layoff is timing. If you practice keeping your body and arms swinging together, it will be easier to find that timing. When you go to the range next time try this: At address, assuming you're a righty, make sure your upper left arm is connected to your outer left pec (chest) and then turn your body back and through. Your swing will feel shorter and tighter so start with a short iron and make 3/4 swings. When you get your arms and body swinging together correctly you will feel effortless power. Let me know if that works.

If you would like more info on a simple swing I'm teaching my students right now visit http://golfswingconnection.com

im gonna be working on long game accuracy and my swing
this time of year the greens are to inconsistent for me i normally do shortgame during the summer i keep my long game simple in summer and just tweek if need be. This winter im making big swing changes its taken me 4 weeks to hit a ball but its worth it i originally thought i could go down to 11 handicap but now im confident its gonna be single figures. IM also gonna work on putting technique only because its my worst area and my swing is now getting close to what im looking for. My bad shots are much much better .

Get to the range practise drills to improve your swing eg weight transfer hips and torso movement, shoulder turns get these right for the summer

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
