Hi Everyone,

What are some "feels" or sensations or swing keys you feel for various parts of the swing that insure good contact?

i know for me, I have to be sure im standing as tall as possible to aid me in not digging holes. I struggle keeping my wrist flat in the backswing, and i think it hinders my swing when I'm so focused on that. In order for me to make good contact I focus about a half a foot in front of the ball.

Gotta be careful with "feels" as they can vary considerably from player to player or even day to day. You need to find your feels. What does it feel like to you when you do x, y or z.

Having said that, here are some of my current feels.

set-up: a fair bit of secondary axis tilt. Feels like my head is behind the ball and that I am looking at the back of the ball throughout the swing.

Backswing: reaching with my arms the whole way back, both arms stay straight. Swing stops as soon as my right arm can longer go back anymore without bending.

Downswing: very explosive. Lead shoulder rips upwards and back like I am trying to fling the club high and left. Wrists and arms stay very soft and supple to allow the face to rotate, otherwise I freeze the face open and hit mega-blocks.

Finish: very tall and fully rotated to, or even past, the target.

Most of these, particularly the BS feels, prove to not be very representative of reality when viewed back on video, but all that matters is the resultant ball flight.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Feel change all the time - depending on what you're trying to accomplish.  As I progressed and started wanting different effects in my swing, my feels changed.  I don't think there is any one feel that has been constant from the beginning . .like a "universal truth" or anything.  A great thing to do is experiment with feels and video - see what the feel actually does to your swing.  You'd be surprised, sometimes.

My favorite feeling for solid contact right now is setting up with the feeling that I'm about to play "tug of war" with the club.  Try to steady my body as if somebody was going to pull on the clubhead and try to make me fall forwards at impact.
