I recently ordered some grips for my Ping G2 irons. They arrived, however the hole in the grip was only 12 mil, whereas the end of the clubs are 15 mil. I returned these, and then ordered some golf pride grips. Knowing the problem, I emailed the seller requesting advice. I was told to order the 0.6 grip. Again it is to small. The supplier also does a 6.2 size, but I don't know what this refers to. can anyone advise me ?

In my bag (Motocaddy Light)

Taylormade Burner driver, Taylormade 4 wood, 3 x Ping Karsten Hybrids, 6-SW Ping Karsten irons with reg flex graphite shafts. Odyssey putter, 20 Bridgestone e6 balls, 2 water balls for the 5th hole, loads of tees, 2 golf gloves, a couple of hand warmers, cleaning towel, 5 ball markers, 2 pitch mark repairers, some aspirin, 3 hats, set of waterproofs, an umbrella, a pair of gaiters, 2 pairs of glasses. Christ, it's amazing I can pick the bloody thing up !!

The grips can stretch over the hole. The hole size is called the "core" size. Some grips are available in more than one core size. But you can use a smaller core grip on a larger shaft. What this does is stretch the grip a bit. The core is actually measured in the butt end of the grip, not the open end. The open end is a bit smaller because the shaft tapers. You should not have a problem installing.

You can't imagine the hassle this caused me. After returning the first set of grips, I got the second ones that still didn't fit. Because everyone on various forums kept telling me they should fit, I ended up taking them to a pro. The pro told me they would not fit, and I needed 0.62 grips, but they had none in stock. This was despite the Ping customer service assuring me that all their irons were a 0.60 fitting. Well, I returned the Golf Pride 0.60 grips, and got 0.62. They fitted perfectly and took 5 minutes to install. To this day I am still confused, but the problem is sorted none the less.

You can put a .58 on a .600 shaft, so I don't know what that's all talking about. I mean, 2/100ths of an inch is not that much.

I'm glad you've got it sorted out though.

I've re-gripped several sets of clubs myself and always had a little "work" to do to get the tip end of the grip over the butt end of the shaft. Yes, everything tapers down. Once that was done, it was easy peasy.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
