Time to brag about our best moment in golf and to let out the ol' skeleton from our closet- our worst moment!

My best...going one putt, sinking a 20 footer for my first birdie. Not much to brag about I know, but for a guy who friends had a cap made with "3PA" emblazoned on it and at that particular moment...it was a "top of the world" feeling!

My worst...its on the signature! without the response of course and in front at another 2 flights waiting.

Oh by the way 3PA stands for "3 Putt Always"

Best moment...making a birdie on 18 from 15 feet to shoot a 74 at my home course. Worst moment...watching my hole 17 tee shot find a huge bush 20 ft right of the fairway and having a to take a drop...i was 2 over up to that point and ended up 5 over.

This summer during a Florida State Am qualifier:

The Bad:

Instead of hitting a full 7-iron (which was my first choice) on a par 3 I decided to smooth a 6-iron. I Promptly dumped it in the front bunker, shank-you'd the first sand shot, left the second sand shot in the bunker, knocked the 3rd sand shot on the green, two putts for a solid 6.

The Good:

The very next hole, a longish par 4 into the wind, I striped a 4-iron to 3 feet and made the putt for birdie.

The Memory:

I posted a 75 and missed qualifying by two shots and missed a playoff by 1.

Well as a rookie golfer I have a lot of bad moments. My best moment though was when I got my first PAR, still waiting on my first birdie, dropped my Tee shot about 15ft from the pin. My worst would have to be when I sliced a tee shot into traffic and nailed a road sign, still can't believe I didn't hit a car though. \(^_^)/

My first year was this past summer so many lowlights but the highlight was a very solid front nine:

Opening 5 for bogie
Par on 2,3,4,5,6
Oops -- doubles on 7 and 8 (penalties for OB tee shots)
The Recovery -- a birdie 3 on a 405 par 4 finishing hole

A grand, not yet equalled, 40.

Best moment: tap in par on #18 at The Willows, a long par 5 that usually gives me grief. Thing is, it was for a 37 (one over) on that nine.

Worst moment: Actually a few of these. The last time I met a really attractive girl on the course, I'd caught up at a par 3. So I, in my ego, decided to hit it from the tips. Chose the right club...just ripped up an enormous divot and watch the ball dribble to the edge of the tee.

Or really early this year, when with a buddy of mine, I skulled my second shot over the green on the first hole, landing in a guy's pickup truck. We didn't really know the rules then, so he made me play it as it lies. The truck was a real beater, so I don't think the owner would have cared, anyway. Bladed it to the front of the green and made a 10 footer for par. (Up and down from a pickup? That has to be something new.)

And the 21 I made this summer. Four consecutive duck-hooks into the woods will ruin anyone's day. (By the way, I birdied the next hole.)

Best moment: (Last week) On a 511 par 5, I hit a great tee shot with my second sitting about 230 out. I break out the 3 wood and smack the cover off the ball. I didn't see it land, but I knew it was headed towards the hole. So I start driving towards the green. Before I get there, my dad yells "you're on the green." It wasn't the shot that really made my day, but the expression on my dad's face when he screamed it out...priceless.

Worst moment: (8 years ago) We were on the 6th hole tee box with the 7 almost parrellel to us. About 80 yds to the left of us was seven's green with two old japanese lady's just finishing putting. They were probably in their late 50's, early 60's. I get up there for my tee shot and skull my ball. It grazes the ground and starts heading towards the two women. We yelled "fore". But too late, it drills one close to her temple and she falls face first. What made the whole situation worse was the base commander happened to catch the whole thing from his car and pulled up to assess the situation. My dad was the golf director at the time, so he had to quit and wait for the ambulance. After the lady gained conciousness, she wanted to finish but they kept her for pre-cautionary measures. The funny thing is the lady wasn't mad that I hit her, she was mad that I was the reason she had to stop golfing for the day.

My worst was returning to the club where I learned to play after 9 years and stinking out the joint. I got into my own head and wanted to play well so badly that I played tightly wound.

Today I played in a scramble at a really nice club. I was bombing some drives and hit one 295, but the highlight was on a par five, I hit the drive and then hit my 3 wood 230 to an elevated green about 20 feet from the pin. I was hitting all kinds of shots.

The next par 3 had a crowd and it was a "beat the pro" deal. He missed the green, and I get up and hit a 6 iron super fat right past the ladies tees. Luckily the last guy in our group hits it 8 feet and wins 4 dozen golf balls and a $300 pair of shoes for being so close. No one really cared about my fat shot, but it was the worst shot I hit all day. At least I got a dozen Titleist DTs out of it.

Go figure.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
