I just read on the Golf Channel website that Charles Howell is opting out of his Callaway contract. Where do you think he's headed next?

Also, Tiger Woods said he was going to try some of the new NIKE clubs and possibly switch. I wonder what prototypes or new clubs he's looking at.

Howell is still at the negotiation stage with other club manufacturers . Tiger might opt for Blades fashioned close to his Titleist irons . So the new irons will have a slight resemblance to the Titleist T Blade or the 660 Model . Let us see if this info is correct . Stand by for the 08 season .

CHIII strikes me as a Nike mold type of guy. I can see him in commercials/ads sporting the all black look. He's a big enough name that Nike would be interested too I think.

Callaway RazrFit Extreme 9.5 w/Project X 6.5
Callaway XHot Pro 15* 3Wood w/Project X 6.5
Callaway XTour 18* 2h w/S300
Callaway XHot Pro 4/5 irons w/S300
Callaway XForged III 5-PW irons w/S300
Callaway Forged 52*/58* Wedges
Odyssey 7 Versa 90
Callaway Hex Black Tour

tiger right now plays a set based off of his old mizuno mp-14s, so i dont what he is looking for now.

Did Tiger not start with Mizuno? I thought he then had his Titleist made to same specs. as the Mizuno, then his Nikes specs.made to same as Titleist.Seems to me that Mizuno should have worked harder in giving him what he wanted in the first place. Am I wrong?

Maybe he would still be playing them.

I have to admit, I'm surprised CHIII isn't already a Nike player, mainly for the reasons you mention. Also, isn't he good friends with Tiger? It seems if he wants Nike, I bet Tiger can give Nike some encouragement if they had any doubts.

As much as I realize it would be a bad idea to play a set of clubs based on what a given pro plays, if I ever fell out of love with my Cobras, I'd be taking a look to see what CH III plays.

I read somewhere that CH III got $3 million(I think this year alone) for his Callaway endorsement... One MUST keep in mind the he will likely play clubs from the company that pays him the most.

With this in mind, Nike and Taylor Made are two obvious contenders.

X-460 9.5* tour Driver/Fujikura stiff
X-15* tour 3 wood/Fujikura stiff
3DX 18.5* Hybrid/Aldila stiff
681 3-PW/Project X 6.0 (now in bag)
X-16 Pro Series Irons/Dynamic Gold S300 54* and 58* wedges Anser Sn putter

Certainly. The issue is, I know I sit up and take notice when a player who is roughly my size (I'm between 5'8 and 5'9 and currently 140 lbs, but gaining) does well in golf. I look at their equipment for certain, but I really pay attention to how they prepare. Tiger's putting drills don't do much for me as far as interest, although I will read about them. When TPI posted Ryuji Imada's exertube workout back in the summer (I think), I integrated it into my routine.

I could see him sporting that logo, maybe Cobra or Mizuno?

That would be great if he went to Mizuno. But he's probably headed to the big companies because he's "worth" a lot.

Figured y'all ahd alread heard, he's going to Bridgestone, according to GD website:

"ess than a week after leaving Callaway Golf, Charles Howell III has inked a three-year deal with Bridgestone that will have the two-time PGA Tour winner playing Bridgestone' Tour B330-S ball and the company's new line of irons (which will be available to the public in early 2008). Howell also will wear a Bridgestone glove, with additional signage on the hat, shirt and golf bag."

Looks like Bridgestone just took a great opportunity. Signing CHIII is going to help their advertising so much.

    • Consider it another way: normally, it's a two-stroke penalty to move your ball out of a bunker (unplayable). The ACC reduces it to just one.
    • No, hitting into a hazard that is supposed to be avoided and is designed to be penalizing is not the same as hitting it into the middle of the fairway.   You are penalized because you hit it into a hazard. Based on your logic let's say you hit it into a red staked penalty area and you could normally play it but it's in temporary casual water from rain. Would you expect a free drop from there too??
    • They could have declared it GUR, sure. It is. It's temporary water, and as I said before, an abnormal course condition (ACC). That's what rule 16 is about — ACCs. No, a bunker ≠ the middle of the fairway. You are penalized because you hit it into a bunker. As for the rest… let's stick to the topic. Yep.
    • It's not dumb. It's dumb to randomly allow a free drop that provides an advantage you don't deserve. And your committee had the option of determining it GUR. Did you talk to them?
    • A sand trap is not supposed to have 3 inches of water in it. To me that’s temporary, casual water. Just like if your ball lands in a deep rain puddle in the middle of the fairway. I would have gladly hit out of any spot in that bunker. I understand that it’s a different rule. I just think it’s a dumb rule. You are penalized because it rained.  Here’s what I think is the dumbest rule in golf, and all sports for that matter - professionals playing for millions of dollars in a tournament have to carry around a little pencil and scorecard to keep their score and sign it, when there are big scoreboards all over the course and on tv. Can you imagine the Knicks losing because they didn’t count their score correctly? Like I said, I love the game, but it’s time to move into the 21st century already.
