I have been thinking about how our culture is structured for health. When we are young, we ride our bikes, and walk and run and play. As we get older we get big cars, sit at desks all day and have expensive health club memberships if we do exercise.

If you think about it, we put our bodies through a lot of stress over the years. Gravity pushes us down all day every day, year after year. We walk on hard surfaces, such as cement that has no give (wonderful for the joints). We recently installed a 2" spring loaded floor in our new YMCA. We bend forward all the time, but never really counter that by bending backwards. I often wonder what it would be like if employers had a short stretching class before work, what it could do for their employees health. Then we go golfing with this same body and complain that we feel stiff and inflexible. Wonder why !

Technology and negative experiences in physical education class may have contribute to children not enjoying physical activity in their adult years. Adults need to take time out of their busy lives and find something physically active to do.

The problem is that people who have not gotten into this habit will find it very difficult to start a program and stick to it. We are about to approach the New Years Resolution workout time of the year. This is the time of the year where all the classes fill up and everyone is determined, but three months later most of them are gone. I was just approached by a golfing group to teach them for 10 weeks. I taught them last year for 10 weeks, then the weather got nice and they were on the course. We both know that the only workout that is worth doing is one that is sustainable and that requires an honest commitment and a lot of discomfort until the muscles adjust

Weight Training for Golf

The author of this book is a personal friend of mine. He is very knowledgeable about exercises needed to play golf.

I bought his videos about a year ago, tried them on and off for about a year. I've made a commitment to an exercise program this fall.  I started his videos again . I'm in week three. we will see what happens in the spring. I'm working out at the gym 5 days a week. I'm doing 3 days of his beginner workouts, one day core and one day a full body work out . All days  start out with a warm up and ends with 30 min of cardio.

Keep it up. Once you make fitness a part of your normal lifestyle routine, you will see the results. It took me about one year of working out at the fitness center 6 days a week. I get upset if I dont get in my daily fitness workout.

I look forward to going to the fitness center at 5:00 am to workout. It has become a social get together with members who share the love of working out and taking care of their bodies to develop functional strength and endurance.
