I have searched a little bit about this but does anyone know some good drills I could do at home that will help me with keeping the club square at impact position. My problem is that I used to come slightly over the top and the ball would fade. So I made some swing changes to eliminate that, then the ball started shoot right immediately, it was almost like I am aiming that way with the way the ball was flying.

please help!

I am always fighting a draw or strong draw and so I started hitting my driver with the face square on my take away and back swing and keeping the face square at impact and with my follow through, inother words I never close or open the club face. I started hitting my irons this way also and found my accuracy has improved and with no distance loss.

Can't san I undesatand what you are trying to say here. Do you mean you keep the clubface square with your left forearm or what?

I (try to) keep the clubface parallel to my left forearm at the top of the backswing (ie; flat left wrist). Then I know that as long as I don't rotate my hands excessively then the club will be square at impact. I should also add that I have a fairly neutral grip. If you have a weak grip, a bowed wrist will help keep the face square. If strong grip then slightly cupped wrist is ok.

My friend, you are attempting the impossible

The goal is not to "keep" the club head square at impact, it is to get it there. My point is, you can't build your golf swing in segments - it's a dynamic, fluid motion.

What would you tell me if I asked you for drills to help me release a baseball at the right time to throw from second base to first?

Maybe you'd say, I don't know if drills are exactly what you need, but I can teach you the basic idea of throwing a baseball - although you probably can figure it out just by watching other people do it - and then you just need to practice.

What is so different about golf that gets everyone all up in arms?

I have put together a collection of images to illustrate how the dynamics of golf are no different than any other sport. http://swingdynamics.blogspot.com/20...ollection.html

Start down by turning your hips aggressively instead of your shoulders/arms. Your arms will be pulled downward close to your right hip on an inside path.

That cured my fade/slice problem.

The brain creates an irresistible 'hitting impulse' when you get to the top of the backswing. You must learn to overcome it by turning your hips first.

I was told that once before and it makes a lot of sense. But, now the problem is i move my hips too soon and the club stays behind a little too much. I did some more searching and found the feet together drill, I'm gonna try that and see if that helps to get my upper body and lower body to work together.

The physics of ball flight are pretty simple. If the ball starts right, your path is from the inside. If the ball starts left, your path is from the outside. If your ball spins right, your club face is open in relation to your swing path, and if the ball spins left, your club face is closed in relation to your swing path.

If your ball is now shooting straight right, then you are sort of correct in saying that you are lining up there. I don't know where your body is aligned, but your swing path is aligned to the right of where you want it.

Unless, of course, you are coming down on the ball so severely steep and open that any flight of the ball that starts to the left is not even noticeable. But from what you've said, this does not sound like the case.

If your swing is oriented to the right of your target, this can only mean one thing: you are not orienting yourself with the target. What this means is to have a conscious, but "invisible" awareness of where your target is as you are swinging. However, most people do not have this awareness, and areyour mind will be indiscriminatory as far as path and club face, as long as you are hitting the ball.

So here's the golden drill - it's easy, and you can incorporate it into every shot you hit on and off the course: Before every shot, take two practice swings, but instead of looking at the ground or your club, look directly down the fairway at your target. Your mind cannot resist swinging towards it.

Play two full rounds doing this for every full shot you hit. I think you will notice a big difference. And remember, when you get around the greens, just forget about it and use your feel.

A million times more helpful than what you said the first time! Thank you i'm gonna try that and see what happens!

In my pre-shot routine I like to pick a spot inches in front of the ball.Trying to hit the ball over that spot helps me swing 'through' impact and keep the face square.

Ditto. This also helps with working the ball. ie; line up the face with one spot and your body with another and swing over the other one.

I try to make sure that my shoulders are square to the target at impact. I practice this using an impact bag and use video to confirm I am doing this in my swing.

I also noticed that I have more feel and control of the clubhead orientation when I slightly de-loft the club at address and through impact.

This is an absolutely fantastic thought process, and it makes perfect sense to me. Now I just have to force myself to remember it, and to keep on the ball during my actual swing.
