Re-gripping (graphite) Prince Thundersticks?

Got a set of Prince Thunderstick irons (graphite shafts) from Dad.  Grips were totally rotted.  Leather maybe?  They came off like black, wet sand...  Anyway, the shafts are dramatically flared at the ends.  Pro told me no commercial grips would fit over them.  Said the needed to be wrapped.  I have re-gripped steel shafted clubs, but can anyone comment on the difficulty of wrapping shafts?  The cost?  Maybe a source for tutorial and/or supplies?  Any opinion or advice is welcome.

I'd say (probably) forget it and get new clubs.  I believe Prince had a proprietary grip - so, unless you can find some new old stock you're sol . .and probably better off with new irons $ for $, either way.

One solution would be to modify the shafts by replacing the flared portion with graphite extensions.  If you would rather wrap them; a tennis supply place might have something you could use for the top layer.

Could you post a picture or measure the flare with some calipers?  If the flare isn't too extreme I would think you could get a normal grip over the flare maybe using the blown on method.

The Prince irons were quite good  and sold for 1K  twenty years ago,but were a marketing failure. As shown in this topic, the use of the idiosyncratic wrap grips was a major mistake - slip on grips cannot work and virtually no pro shop today can do wrap grips. The solution: get new clubs OR if you really like them, re-shaft them and then slip on grips will work.

I don’t see why you couldn’t get a modern grip over the butt section. Unless what you have is differnt than what comes up On search results. The grips definitely look like “wraps” but they seem to be one piece.
