Looking for a low launch and low spin driver shaft. Currently have the Callaway xr pro driver with the stock stiff flex( shame on me) Swing speed is 113-117.  Need to get my spin numbers down. Around 3000. And my launch needs to be lowered.  16-18.  I can hit lower but it takes way to much manipulation in my swing to achieve a consistent strike. Any help would be appreciated.

With your high swingspeed, launch angle (16 - 18* is current?) and spin (3,000 RPM current?), you may need more than a new shaft.

Also, what is the loft on your XR16 driver, 9.0* or 10.5* ?

For shaft, you might try the Fuji 765 (more than 70 grams) in XS. That's a $50 upgrade, not too bad.

Possibly the Big Bertha Alpha 815 (reversible cone for trajectory control) or the current XR Sub Zero (really low spin) might have worked better for you.

By the way, did you get fitted for the XR 16 Pro? I'm not being snarky on this... If you got fitted, it looks like a case of clubfitter malpractice... You didn't get good advice on what you needed.

If you got bad fitting advice, maybe you can negotiate a swap-out with minimal additional cost to you.

Anyway, you need a launch monitor and some different shafts to test out (and maybe the SubZ head).

Possibly others can give advice on specific shafts.

I recently just got into golf, so my mechanics over the past year and a half have drastically changed.  The driver is last year's model (9*) and after watching a good amount of videos about fitting practices they probably did a very poor job. I have been on a launch monitor with and compared my numbers with the stock shaft and an x flex.  X flex had better numbers. Diamana 70,  44.5 inches. Not looking for more distance. Just looking for a more penetrating flight as is really windy here and I need to find more fairways as I'm losing shots being out of position.  My numbers when I got fitted we much different than they are now.

I have a similar swing speed and wonder why the make stiff and xstiff shafts with a low kick point. I have a HiBore 9.5 degree with a Red Fujikura.  Its specs are 65 grams, 3.1 torque, mid/high kick point, stiff flex.  They also have a yellow/gold that has a low kick.  I had to special order the red shaft to get the ball flight I wanted.  I also have an AccuFLEX VS339 in a Bang-O-Matic 12 degree.  Even with that much loft the high kick point gives me a low penetrating ball flight.

The Project X (aka RPX) 6.5 is a very good shaft for you're looking for.  It plays as X-Stiff.  Or you could go to the 6.0 which is stiff.  They are super nice though.

It currently has the project x 6.0 shaft in it. I do notice that when I swing about 10mph slower it gives me a much better trajectory and spin numbers.  I need something that I can just swing my normal swing with consistent results. I understand strike plays a huge part and I am consistent with that. Looking for more fairways. My buddy just got an Aldilia rogue silver 70. It felt pretty stout with minimal twisting during the couple swings I put on it. Any thoughts guys?

The Aldila Rogue Silver 70 is one of the options for Callaway's low-spin, XR.16 Super Zero driver.

Here's the specs on the Aldila Rogue shafts.

The Rogue Silver 70 shafts retail for $285 through Golfworks. If you buy a Sub Zero driver, this shaft comes at no extra charge as one of the 20 premium upgrades. If you buy an XR16 Pro driver, the shaft would only be an $80 upcharge.

A comparison of the other XR family driver offerings and the Sub Zero suggests approaching the SubZ with caution: the tester said it had low spin and low forgiveness. You might do better going with the Rogue Silver 70 or a similar shaft in a more forgiving head. Again, test out on launch monitors.

Anyway, good luck. And let us know what you end up doing for your driver recipe.

(I stand corrected on earlier post; I had assumed you had XR.16 rather than XR driver).

Went up to golf galaxy and tried out some shafts. Not much selection on x flexes though. After about 8 or 9 shafts and head combos I ended up with a Titliest 915 d3 with a Diamana d+ 70 x flex.    Tried out the m1 head. Have to say that I wasn't impressed. Actually didn't like how light or felt.  But that's another thread all together.  Spin numbers mid to low 2000s. Launch still a little high but with the lower spin much better. Was able to get one in the 1000s and Dang that one flew ridiculously long. Dispersion was much tighter as well. All and all I feel pretty good about it. Plus I got a great deal on it.

    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
