I have tried for years off and on to create lag in my swing. With no true success. I understand the fundamentals in how to create lag. I've even felt what its like to successfully preform a swing with lag and loved the results. I just cannot make it a permanent part of my swing. Does anyone have any full proof drills, tools, courses I could use. I'm willing to totally start over in my swing.

Trying to create/working on lag doesn't really work. You need to work on a proper, centred pivot with enough weight forward at impact and a good amount of speed. Do that and lag just happens.

Then you have not been paying much attention-Plenty of other people embed his videos here. If you like them not so bright-Monte is your guy!

Keys #1-3 I agree-Lot of two. Can't get the handle forward without the weight properly forward.

Read these two classic threads and look up Key 1 (steady head) and key 2 (weight forward). Ultimately, what "lag" is all about is achieving an inline impact (key 3), which means the club shaft and your lead arm form a straight line at Impact instead of flipping, allowing you to compress the ball.

If you get those two keys working reasonably well, lag will just happen, but if you aren't achieving those keys, all the "lag drills" in the world aren't gonna help you. Lag happens when other things are done correctly, you can't really isolate it as a "thing" to work on.

    • It’s winter here and time hitting at my indoor place.  This year I bought and sold a few sets so I didn’t settle in on anything. For this coming season, starting now I have a choice to make.  What set would you guys use? 1.  Nike Vapor Pro irons - They are like new, hit them some last year before I had to demo other sets.  I love them, original grips, barely used so I’m almost not wanting to use them to keep their value up.  Standard LLL and standard grips. 2. Taylormade P7TW irons - Still in the box.  Got them over a year ago but had too much to hit, never used them.  Have used a set in the past and loved them.  Ended up with my own set custom fit to me -1/4”, 1 degree flat midsize grips.  These are probably not as valuable because they are still available and they are fit to me. I hate to put the Nikes away but it makes more sense to save them than the TW’s…. I dunno….
    • Day 215 (3 Dec 24) - Another very chilly day - opted to work on easy pitches in the backyard. Worked thru the irons and wedges - focused on foot position and tempo.
    • Yes. I believe in using the same ball all of the time, including chipping and putting practice. I use the orange Callaway Supersoft.  Only $25 per dozen, and sometimes on sale for $20.
    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
